Travis Swift Posted September 19, 2018 Author Posted September 19, 2018 thanks for the answers so far every one. I really appreciate it.
tjm Posted September 19, 2018 Posted September 19, 2018 When I tied them to fish in New England there were no beads and the hooks were standard dry fly hooks and small, probably wouldn't work over there. The ones still left in my box appear to be 22s & 24s, up eye, tied around the bend, silver wire & what Universal Vice called "Floating Yarn" in white for gills. I think the scud hook (wide gape) would be ideal, give a more natural curve.
Gavin Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 You do not want a down eye on a small short shank or curved hook. Bigger the gap the better. 16 or smaller are all straight eye hooks.
Travis Swift Posted September 20, 2018 Author Posted September 20, 2018 any specific hook models anyone? especially Gavin? I was pretty set on ordering Tiemco 2487s just based off what I have found
snagged in outlet 3 Posted September 20, 2018 Posted September 20, 2018 Been using that hook for years on scuds, midges and SJ worms. They work great for carp fishing with a kernel of corn while chumming. The slight twist in them hook fish very well. Use em down to 18.
Travis Swift Posted September 22, 2018 Author Posted September 22, 2018 My very 1st attempt at making my own midge. snagged in outlet 3, duckydoty, Johnsfolly and 4 others 7
