dan hufferd Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 i guess I should have taken a picture of the graph. I was looking for fish Saturday, I thought that there might be some on the deep trees in the middle of Maze creek. Some of you might know where the north most trees are in the middle of the main channel. I never see anyone fish them. As I moved just north of the last tree, I could see something feeding way down on the bottom 45 ft or so. I thought I would drop some bait and see what they were, I would get a bump or two, I dropped a couple minnows only to get them stolen. My guess maybe bluegill. Did any one else see this? I have caught a few nice bass on Tablerock in deep trees like this. It seems like there should be a lunker in there. Daryk Campbell Sr, freefallin and YakAttack 3
MrGiggles Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 All I know is that creek makes me nervous. I ran it clear to the bridge in my little boat last spring. Didn't catch much in there though. I was in it a couple months ago and bumped a tree way out in the main channel because the water is so low. No, thanks. liphunter and freefallin 2 -Austin

If you want to find a quick way back to the 1st narrow, go slow and map it once, it is kind of a long ark, something(not exactly, make your own path) like this(see map). You have a right to be nervous, it very deceiving ! I don't go back that far either, I have been back in there too, it always looks good, but not real productive. freefallin 1
straw hat Posted November 26, 2018 Posted November 26, 2018 I know that the wife and I have this happen a lot this time of year and it is usually bluegill. One way to tell for sure is if the eyes are missing from the minnows head, That is the first thing the bluegill goes for. Every now and then we do catch one. Anyway, just a thought. freefallin, liphunter, Daryk Campbell Sr and 1 other 3 1

Am I correct in that you made a video a few years back on that main point during high water? A couple months ago I fished there at dusk and stayed for an hour or so. Only caught a few bass, was hoping for walleyes. I caught a couple small eyes three weeks ago, I don't have a clue where they are now. I'm too distracted with good crappie fishing to try and figure them out. I have messed around with spoons and jigging raps. Haven't caught anything on the raps, and caught a couple crappie and one walleye on the spoon early fall last year. Any tips to keep the hook from grabbing the line on your spoons? -Austin

You know the saying, don't leave fish to find fish. I think they are everywhere following bait fish, and yes I have caught a couple walleye there.😁

waterpossum Posted November 27, 2018 Posted November 27, 2018 Maze hasn't been too productive for me the last couple of years. Three years ago there was some spots that regularly produced keeper size bass. Just about a 1/2 mile further back from where your mark ended on the west side there is a good size colony of cormorants that have lived there and nested there for years. I know they are despised by most fisherman because of their prolific appetite for fish. Funny, but I have caught crappie and bass in that cove with those things grunting and cackling. Years ago even further back there was some huge grass carp that I guess someone had released. Maze has become a favorite arm for the night bow fisherman so I doubt any are still there. If you go across the 215 bridge in the back you can see a couple of big slabs of cement where the old road bed was. You can actually drive into Maze creek if you turn west on the first road before entering Cedar Ridge. I have seen several vehicles back there while fishing. I have only run at full throttle to the bridge when the lake is at 869+ Otherwise I don't have the nerve. Dan I think you are the victim of the infamous blue shelled crayfish known to lay in the deepest belly of Maze Creek. freefallin and dan hufferd 2

Any tips to keep the hook from grabbing the line on your spoons? Grabbing the line, yes. It happens to me too sometimes, on the up stroke pause at the top for just a moment, or what I do is to take the swivel off then use a clip right to the spoon, that helps. I have a friend who takes the swivel off, and reuses the swivel to tie a heavy leader to the main line, then tie the leader right to the spoon. I have tried it but I change colors too much for that. freefallin 1
