You are supposed to be looking at the food snagged . FYI that is a full mount bear taken by a recurve in Ontario. On his back is a peccary (javelina) from south Texas made into a rug taken with an Osage self bow. I really need to find a good place to hang the peccary on a wall. I have had some good fun with that mount. Had it on a table at knapp inns when making points. Children and adults come by and just have to touch the head and especially the teeth. That is when you let out a squall. I have seen some of the neatest reactions and moves. Women say OMGosh I just peed myself ! An odor kind of skunkish and musky. When hunting them before you see the things there is that smell. Not an unpleasant smell IMO just like a mink or even a skunk (at a distance) or beaver castor it brings back memories. The bear meat was eaten as was the peccary. Did you butcher it? Maybe a processing plant? How many people handled your meat? Oops let me rephrase that, How many people touched that meat you put in your mouth? Just poking at you Snagged. We like a nice steak once and awhile. Also most of the year we don't have to worry about lettuce tainted with salmonella. So far the big romaine we bought at Walmart and made a salad with and had at noon yesterday has been no problem. Eating can be a roll of the dice. We just like to load those dice as much as possible, BilletHead "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Roll those dice but better yet doesn't matter what you eat if you ask blessing over it . You have given me the urge for a good steak though. tjm Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 I worked with a Mexican carpenter for a while that said his family could eat a whole cow in two weeks. That'd be about six deer a week. fwiw, I won't eat deer that was done by a processor, most don't do a full job of it and cut a deer like a cow. Game has to be treated with more care than barn yard animals. I can recommend deer, cottontail, beaver, muskrat, quail, pheasant, dove, grouse, partridge, skunk, woodchuck, raccoon, duck and goose; but I wouldn't eat them if prepped by a commercial processor either. nomolites 1
snagged in outlet 3 Posted December 17, 2018 Posted December 17, 2018 Unlike Wrench, I'm perfectly adapted to my environment. Grew up and still live in the burbs. You get your groceries locally your way and I get mine my way locally. I buy meat from the local butcher shop and it's local, no antibiotics or BGH. As near as anyone can guarantee I guess. I get beef from a different guy than I do pork or chicken. It would be difficult to live off the land around my house and then throw in still work a full time job. Poultry for lunch!! Gobble, gobble. Boars Head. Like everyday for the past 30 years plus.
