Ness,Try Peppermint oil on cotton balls says google. There seems to be dozens of squirrel deterrents. have to find out what actually works I guess.    What is it about city squirrels anyways!? They are like Tom Cruise. Mission Impossible .when we lived in town they could get into our garden cages made with chicken wire, made it look too easy. Friends live in St. Louis, turn your back to your tomatoes for 5 seconds, poof gone

Dang it!

What makes you think squirrel on that one??  Have you seen them do it?

Put out some ears of corn and they will leave the maters alone.  I seldom have a problem with maters and squirrels, I have seen them work the smaller ones like the cherry and grape.  But they pluck them and carry them off whole.  Mainly when it gets dry in late summer.

I would probably blame that on a turtle or possum.

Game cameras and some kind of death tool to fix the problem would be my best suggestion.

I’ve seen the little bastids sniffing around, that’s how I know. No turtles are climbing up in there and possums are few and far between here. What makes you think it can’t be a squirrel and must be something else, you contrary SOB?😄

They don't like lead in pellet form.

A turtle could sit his front legs on the bottom rung and eat away.  Possums eat alot of tomatoes, caught them in the act.

I don't think it is a squirrel on a big mater.  Too big of a bite.

Feed them some corn if you think squirrel.  Spray some fungicide, looks like you have an issue on the leaves.

No turtles are climbing up the side of my raised beds, and hoisting themselves up the cages and munching on tomatoes. Haven’t seen a possum here in a coons age. My dogs run off squirrels daily. Don’t think feeding them corn is a solid idea.

And copper fungicide has been applied.

Do you grow maters? You sure sound like an expert 😄

I plant a few every year for kids. Usually just Sunsugar, Grape, Cherry, and a couple of Better Boy.  I will eat a Sunsugar from Time to time, but not a big tomato fan.  Don't use them much around house.

Moth balls are a great deterrent for things like rodents and ground hogs, and other various critters. Squirrels are just a big rat with good PR. The biggest challenge to that, is staying up all night banding moths.
