The crappie should be on the banks bigtime.  If they aren't,  they should be close.  I would bring a bunch of minnows and use a bobber.  Set it for 18 inches and work the banks.  Depending on how many kids you have, you may be spending all your time taking fish off and putting minnows on!  😀

Awesome thanks so much! Do you know if whites are done?

I know last weekend they were catching them tight to rocky banks. I caught 2 while bass fishing.  I would think the white bass spawn would be over but I don't fish for them specifically.

I think I gave you some bad advice.  I went down and put in at Ruark Bluff and headed up Sons Creek.  Water temps were from 59 to 62.  I couldn't find any crappie shallow.  I really thought that the water would be warmer.  I fished around there until about 1:00 pm and only had 3 fish.  A 5 or 6 pound carp and 2 largemouth.   One of the largemouth was a keeper (15 3/4 inches).  I pulled out and headed to Orleans Trail.   That's where I found the white bass and bass.  Ended up catching somewhere between 50 and 60 fish.  20 or so largemouth, smallmouth,  and 1 kentucky.  One 11 inch crappie.   The rest were white bass.  Most of them caught on a silver & white Keitech, or a white 1/16th ounce grub.

Pretty good day but also disappointing.   I was really wanting to find some crappie.

we were out at turnback and big sac area.  water temps 68-70.  crappie were scarce.  we fished prob 4+ hours and only caught 6 fish.  didnt see anyone hitting em hard.  we did see 4 agents at the ramp when we put in and took out.  they said they checked prob 100 people yesterday.

im surprised at the big swing in temps from the area i was in to where skeeter was.  can anyone tell me if thats normal for stockton  in the spring?  maybe just the natural progression of the way the lake warms?

I was there Thursday, Fished mostly the mutton creek area. Never seen anything above 63 degrees. Caught several dink Crappie and a couple of decent keepers. It was pretty slow. Caught them in all in 10 to 15 FOW.  Couldn't find anything shallow yet. Looks like if I want to try next week, I'm going to be wet...

Luck is where preparation meets opportunity...... Or you could just flip a coin???B)

No worries! We didn’t have much luck but I hooked a 7 pound catfish on last cast and my boys were so excited to watch the fight! You only gave the advice you had. You can’t be responsible for stuff that changes!

The crappie are still scattered and suspended down 10-18 ft. out in 20-30 ft. of water in middle of spawning coves. I have a feeling that they are doing most of the spawning at night and probably not very shallow due to the clear water nearly lake-wide. I'm hoping some heavy rain this week will add some color to the water but not increase the level much...……. wishful thinking!
