The big issue with ours is it has that stupid staggered/offset where the smaller door is set back a couple feet from the bigger one with a load bearing concrete pillar in between.

Yet another example of why a good friend of mine calls architects “cartoonists”!

Yep. That pillar is a problem. One guy (who actually knows stuff 😉) said we might be able to build out and just hang a long single door. Tear out the decorative bits. But we don't have the offset issue. Just the two doors.

After reading this it makes me happy that I had a big boat before we built our house.  My wife designed the house and I designed the garage.  I built a 15X30 boat bay with a floor drain and hot and cold water so I could fit the boat in and wash it inside the garage when the weather is cold.  They wanted to put an 8' door in it.  My trailer was wider than that.  I insisted on a 12' and it is barely wide enough if my s-i-l is backing the boat.

You, sir, are the very definition of the term “Great American”!

I’ve long thought that those who design the typical home have some vendetta against the marine industry as a whole.

Either that or they are heavily invested in storage facilities!

In my area (Nixa) Home’s with 3 car garages are bringing a 35 k premium . When we bought 13 yr ago it was at the top of my list. I’m able to squeeze in a boat, truck,Mom’s suv, workbench ,2 bikes , a Ztr mower and a wall dedicated to rods and tackle. It also has hot/cold water and a central vac port in the garage. We don’t have a mansion it’s just 2200 sq ft but I stood by my guns and have never regretted it

You have been appropriately added to my personal list of "Local Heroes That Done Good"!

In my next life I'm gonna do better.

Maybe even the Bill Babler aircraft hangar!

No offset or door size problem thank goodness, but I did have a garage depth problem.  With my son's help, we added a dog house to the back wall that provides space for the motor. It hangs about 6" off the ground so no footings. It allowed me to stuff a 20' 4" boat into 20' 11" of available space thanks to the way in which BassCat minimizes trailer length. Straight in, no angle parking, and the missus is able to park in the other stall which ensures general happiness.

Wow!  It snowed there?

That's way worse than all the rain!

I do like the innovating thinking - boat guys will do some crazy stuff.

Glad I ain't into horses.......

Lol. That pic was taken in Feb. Here it snows in Nov and just stays until April. None of the nancy snows that are gone in a day. And yes, I would prefer rain.

Guess I forgot that you live way up there with the wolves and crazy people that fish even when you can walk on the water!

They're known as government dogs up here. 😀  I have never been able to enjoy staring down a hole in the ice hoping to catch a 6" bluegill. Now a heated shack with a good card game and a pot of chili on the stove is an excellent treatment for cabin fever.
