Rob P Posted May 13, 2019 Posted May 13, 2019 We did really good this past weekend on cranks over the brush. Despite the rain which slowed our bite down on Saturday. Typically lots of spots, this weekend only LM and walleye. No smallies or spots which was weird. But everyone caught fish. Fish24/7 1
Fish24/7 Posted May 13, 2019 Author Posted May 13, 2019 5/13 8:30 to 3:30 . 3 1/2ft. Visibility Was so fired up after watching fishing shows, and in such a hurry to get out there ,I forgot my cooler, phone and lunch at the house 😞 Same place as last time. Never had a bite until noon. A light breeze switched from N to W/ NW and it happened. From noon to 1I caught 7 keepers and 3 shorts. Nice size on the keepers all 3lb class and fat. Plus one lunker I guessed at 5lbs. 11" c- mac worm Texas rigged 3/16oz .they wanted the ribbon tail today. Depth 3 to 7 ft. Close to drop-offs. I fished these spots for hours without a bite earlier in the morning. After that,,, no bites. Planned on staying till sundown but was so hungry and thirsty I quit early. Fish24/7 Posted May 15, 2019 Author Posted May 15, 2019 5/15 6:30 to 10:30 Basically same pattern and places again. Still throwing a worm. Tied on a 🐸 too. A Red eye shad on another rod. Saw lots of big shad activity and gar everywhere . Red eye caught some short fish off the drop offs. Caught 2 on the 🐸 and missed 2 because I was setting the hook to quick. Worm bite was still decent. Not as many 3lb fish today but still fun! Saw/caught a few late spawners on beds too. All released. 😉 Johnsfolly, snagged in outlet 3, mixermarkb and 2 others 5
Bill Babler Posted May 15, 2019 Posted May 15, 2019 Looks like he choked the frog. Good Job. If I'm fishing it the frog is usually flying thru the air after i jerk it away from them on the take. I need a more sticky bait for topwater, my nerves just can't stand to wait.😊 Fish24/7, Johnsfolly and mixermarkb 2 1 http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Fish24/7 Posted May 15, 2019 Author Posted May 15, 2019 Thanks Bill. Both fish just exploded on it when they bit. First time breaking out the 🐸 this year. It usually takes me a couple few missed bites to remember to say "1 Mississippi" before setting. 😄 The bottom fish actually hit it so hard I saw her whole body and head with mouth open as she grabbed it! She went up in the air and back down into the water with the 🐸 in her mouth before I pulled back.
Bill Babler Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 I was watching a video of guys fishing a frog. They were throwing slack in the line on the take and then loose line snapping it. Good Lord, if I tried something like that I would wrap the slack around the rod tip break off the tip and probably throw a bird nest the size of a softball in my reel. I have found out with me if they can catch themselves i'm way better off. Redfin, Pooper, Rat, Spook, are about as complicated as I need to make it. They have lots of sharp hooks. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com

That's the way to do better with hookups on stock hollow body frogs.....but I don't have that kinda muscle memory so I tweak the hooks a bit (bend them up and out) and that cured that BS. I may hang up occasionally, but by golly when a fish eats it he gets stuck right now.
