Remembering those who served

It’s not just a long weekend, a reason to bar-b-que or the official beginning to summer. It’s really a time to remember those who put their lives on the line for all the rest of us. 

Mansor John Mansor, 1915-1944, United Stated Army, killed in action 9/22/1944 at Futa Pass, Italy, my uncle.

John Harvey Nesselrode, 1922-2004, served in Korea 1950, my dad.

Clifford Calvin Nesselrode, 1917-2011, USAAF WWII, my uncle.

George Harvey Nesselrode, 1919-1981, USAAF WWII, my uncle.

Thanks to everyone who served or is serving.  My dad and his brothers all served WW II and the Korean War.  My grandpa in WW I.

Will Roy Poppen USMC died at the battle of Iwo Jima. I have one of his eagle globe and anchor pins. I keep it with my service ribbons and other nonsense. Most of the men in my family are veterans. Everyone other than Will Roy made it home. Have 2 in the service now. Both aircrew, rescue divers.. Ben is on shore duty training some new guys in Norfolk VA. Got his blue nose on last deployment. Jordan (who married Ben’s sister) is aboard the Lincoln in the Persian Gulf right now.

He was my coach (assistant to Angelo Prassa) in high school football, played for OU, and one of the nicest persons you could know.
