If someone shoots at you and then immediately drives or is running away you can't just return fire, because at that point they are no longer a threat. You can't use your gun to "retaliate", you can only use it to protect your life in the moment of the attack. Everybody wants to pack a gun around, but I don't think they are in touch with reality. You, as a citizen, do not have "STOP OR I'LL SHOOT" authority, no matter what someone just did to you, and no matter what you are afraid they MIGHT do. You are correct in what you say and I would not use a gun in anything but extreme situations but having been on situations where threats were eminent to me and mine there are time I wish I would have had one just in case. Ina drive by situation it would indeed be of very little use. But when attacked at home, on the lake or in public it may save your life or serious injury.

Everybody wants to carry a gun, but nobody wants to wear kevlar. I mean.....If the threat is REAL then I'd want both. I'm not one to go sparsely prepared, if I'm concerned for my life then you can bet I'll be TRULY equipped to win the game. You wear a PFD in a boat, but haven't even considered a vest that stops bullets...... you're just gonna carry more of them. I just don't understand the mentality of that. Maybe a weekly Roman Candle fight out in the yard with your wife would be good practice. 😊 Daryk Campbell Sr 1

straw hat Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 A conceal and carry permit is not required but they carry a lot of weight if you ever go to court. Besides firearm safety the conceal and carry classes include an extensive review on how and when you can legally use a firearm for protection of you, others and property. My wife and I are working with the local police department and following their suggestions closely. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
MOPanfisher Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 Conceal carry is certain not a cure for all things. But then nothing is, the one thing that is tough to learn and maybe impossible to teach is to know "when" to use a firearm. I like guns, I have a conceal carry permit I almost never carry, I seldom go places where I think it might be of benefit to me or my loved ones. The only thing I can think of that a conceal carry firearm would be of benefit in a drive by shooting would be if I were able to achieve cover and make certain that they don't stop and come over to make sure they got me. In that case I wouldn't go quietly, might never cut a hair on them but it wouldn't be for lack.of trying. If someone want to carry I am all for them doing so, do it legally, learn when, where and how to use it well. FWIW the only reason I have ever carried a handgun is a rifle isn't always practical.
