Does anyone know anything about lake ouachita arkansas

The wife and I drove around that lake yesterday, and had a brief visit to hot springs. Question to anyone who might know the lake, is it worth a 4 hour drive to fish and stay ?

I am an hour from Beaver, Stockton, Capefair, and 1.5 from Beaver creek Bullshoals, other than a huge natural park. Is  lake ouachita arkansas worth the drive ?

It’s a nice enough lake, but you’ve got lots of stuff as Good or better closer. I have wanderlust worst than most and I’m not going back down there to fish any time soon.

IF I were you, I would definitely try to find recent fishing reports from Ouachita online. Striper fishing can be good. All three bass in good numbers. Walleye. Crappie. catfish. Panfish. It’s pretty and has lots of islands.

It seems to me that Stripers are king there.

the Ouachita River has good populations of smallmouth BTW

I have fished Hamilton, the next one down. Trout below the dam at Ouachita at head of Hamilton during winter months. Bass are there but boat traffic keeps them skittish.  Ouachita is more of a fishing lake.

If you're after those bugeyes, the islands Ham mentioned are a good place to start this time of year. Some of them are visible, some are completely submerged. There's also some submerged weedbeds you won't find on our other highland lakes. For a lake that looks much like what you're used to, it's got some different bells & whistles.

I fished it twice in the 70's. Good bass lake. Unlike Hamilton, Ouachita is not surrounded by houses. If you make the drive choose later in the fall.

Dan, So I always stay at Shangri La when I fish down there, they are famous for the pie. At first it was always an early spring striper trip, we had some excellent trips. Later I found myself working in pine bluff so every other weekend I stayed there. The bass fishing is pretty good, but from reading your posts over the past couple years I’m betting you are most interested in walleye so I think you will be interested in the fact that jigging spoons and brush piles equal walleye this time of year on Quachita.

Beaver is my fav walleye stop for sure, not so much when its flooded like this but usually August and September are great for trolling deep diving cranks.
