As long as when you say it, whomever you are saying it to know where you are talking about it doesn't matter.  Kind of like the umpteen ways I have heard Pomme de Terre pronounced.   My personal favorite is Pumley Tarr, but again since i knew exactly what they were speaking of it worked just fine.

Yes I have been told by my Mother in Law on Pomme de Terre. I like Lebanon. Some come in saying Lebanooon. I say your not from around here are you?

Anymore I just call Pomme de Terre, Pomme.

Anymore we say we are going to the lake. We don’t think Lake of the Ozarks we think Truman Lake because we have a Cabin there.

Most don’t pronounce my last name right being French and most never write it right.

We always went to Sackville Store or School and went to the Sock River. Yes even then found it strange.

Over 50 years ago word of mouth was very fast with girls in the area. LOL and wasn’t nothing for the girls to enjoy going for a walk in the woods.

I have always hear Sack.  Took awhile figuring out the Son Sac thing last weekend till I found the Son arm.  Fishing buddy has a wife that was raised on it.  He met her in Med School at Columbia.

Interesting place, I really liked it.  Gonna go back to explore it more.

I've heard Lebanon pronounced Leb-an-on just like it's spelled but mostly I hear Leb-Nunn.

Then there's the town named Versailles.   In French it's Ver-Sigh.  In Missourian it's like it's spelled, Ver-sales.

Nevada, MO?  Ne-vay-da

Hayti, MO?  Hay-Tie

Bois D'Arc, MO?  Bo-Dark

The hairy armpit of the Ozarks. Lamest Wal-Mart, most disgusting McDonalds and Sonic, ugliest and most unfriendly tatted up/toothless convenience store attendant's, most foul smelling city water supply,  most ignorant (but cheap)  auto-service establishments, most nit-picky/nosey cops, and everytime a cloud blows over it floods the main intersection.  The only nice building in town is the courthouse and jail.

As far as county seats go...it has to rate rock bottom.  😟  So who cares how it's pronounced?

Ver Sales has a big ole Cemetary.  Tom Tom routed me all the way around it on a cut thru to the Beach.

At least no one here is from Low Wassie MO.  Been there, made alot of fun of it thru the years.  Went thru Toga MO. this afternoon.

I use to buy Fescue Seed from there. They just didn’t know how to care for it before shipping it.

I use to do bunch of business there but always felt they could have done better.

Went to a Kegger there one time. Plenty of Marijuana and Poaching. Oh I got a Speeding Ticket.

Stop there regular but you are right.

It's the closest "real town" to me, but going there for anything has always been a disappointment or a complete waste of time.   Recently learned that all the folks that live there beat a trail back and forth to Eldon, Jeff City or Columbia for everything but milk and eggs.  Even the car wash is a POS and breathing the mist will make you ill if you can't get the grime off on the first 1.50

If I believed in such things I'd swear that the whole town has a curse on it.  Twilight Zone type stuff.  It's probably the rotten egg smelling water that the people bathe and wash their dishes in.  Some may even actually drink it !
