I wish I could have been one of the people with them. And I don’t know for 100% for sure but I can read and when I was much younger I enjoyed reading history about explorers. L&C were explorers, amongst other things, but they were not tasked with carrying gear. That’s why they had people.
Gavin Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 I don’t discount anything that Lewis & Clark did. I have read the journals. The Corps of Discovery was a group of 2 Officers, several Sergeants, about 30 privates, Lewis’s slave York, Sacajawea, and various privateers. I’m amazed that any of them made it back!

I wish I could have been the writer of the journal. There would have been giant squirrels, and pteradactyles, and nymphomaniac Indian women with huge perky breasts..... ! The history books are so full of BS ...... L&C (had they any imagination at all) could have had alot more fun with it.

fishinwrench Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 I remember reading that one of them was writing back and forth with his mother, and I always wondered how that was made possible. They never explained whose job it was to shagass back and forth with those "letters" and still be able to find them and rejoin the group upon return.

Gavin Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 I'm sure that Lewis....had the extra whiskey. Depressive alky, by all accounts. Committed suicide.
Gavin Posted November 5, 2019 Posted November 5, 2019 Different age. People would write letters even in the absence of mail service. They wanted their families to know, & hoped for delivery.
