wily Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 I think the more you go...the more familiar you will become with it We haven’t done very well this year if the gauge of success is numbers of ducks killed...but I don’t care...I’ve have had a great time. And I plan to go back this weekend. 4rivers is a fantastic resource. I can’t believe they don’t charge a daily fee.
Ryan Miloshewski Posted January 6, 2020 Author Posted January 6, 2020 Haven't seen a duck since 12/30 in Clinton. They are around on big duck clubs just sitting put. Or gone. Anybody else doing anything this late? “To those devoid of imagination a blank place on the map is a useless waste; to others, the most valuable part.”--Aldo Leopold
slothman Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 It has been a really weird year. I have a buddy that has traveled all over the flyway from Canada to Arkansas and he says the birds just aren’t anywhere. Maybe the migration patterns have changed, but he has been all over looking for them and has never found the numbers like he felt like he should have.
Gavin Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 Haven't been looking for them. Pass shot a big honker while scouting a couple weeks ago, but have been busy with the holiday's and winter float. Not seeing anything other than the resident ducks on the local park pond right now. Had a couple bunches of migrators visit for a day but none stayed more than overnight. Lots of Canada's loafing on un-huntable ponds in the STL area now, driving by several hundred daily. Might try to wack some on the MO river this weekend. Ryan Miloshewski 1

I think the warm temps really altered or hindered everything. It was 55 in Clinton the other day and at the same time was 52 in Nebraska..on January 6th. That's not ideal. And from what I hear nothing is truly locked up north of us. So why would they leave? I think this weekend will be a good end for the Middle Zone, though, with single digits and snow. “To those devoid of imagination a blank place on the map is a useless waste; to others, the most valuable part.”--Aldo Leopold
DADAKOTA Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 Lack of food in the MDC refuges has allowed the birds to spread out like they used to. Lots of birds still up north that have never come down. Now we know how the Arkansas folks feel when our refuges are full of ducks well after the season has closed. Been a decent year so far. Should be a major push in the next week. Hope they get here by the weekend. Gavin 1

I saw one deer they brought in that looked like a horse.
Hunter91 Posted January 9, 2020 Posted January 9, 2020 It has been hit and miss for us also. Had a good day New years eve up near Clinton with two limits of mallards. Went a few days ago and only killed three for staying all day. our group has killed less than 40 ducks all season. Whereas, I know that is not a necessary gauge on a good season it does show we have had opportunities at less birds. I hope the season ends with a bang!

About the same thing I experienced. I think with the weather this weekend we should have some fun! Going to run the ice eater all night Friday to have an open hole. Ryan Miloshewski Posted January 16, 2020 Author Posted January 16, 2020 Had a good closing weekend of Middle Zone. Looking to explore South Zone perhaps..any good areas south of KC area? “To those devoid of imagination a blank place on the map is a useless waste; to others, the most valuable part.”--Aldo Leopold
