I have seen recipes where oil is mixed with the batter and a goodly amount melted in the bottom before putting in batter. I like some fat in my diet but not this much 😶. Anybody have an idea? Don't change your recipe, change your cookware! Johnsfolly 1 John

That's better, Boy I thought you went all downside to Covid thing and wanted to argue until we were both blue in the face and ready to stroke out. Guess I jumped to a conclusion before I counted hospital bed availability. I feel we have come to a consensus on the corn shaped corn bread pan. BilletHead Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 So lets get a couple pieces in the E-tank. Took out the Dutch oven i had in there and cleaned and seasoned it. Picked up the SBL #8 Griswold and the gate marked Gem pan. Got them hung by a couple wires and plugged it in. A small fizz started from the wires. Soon the fizz became intense and the crud and light rust started leaving the iron. In a day of two will see how they look! snagged in outlet 3 and Johnsfolly 2 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" tho1mas Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 B.H. - I had four cornbread cast iron (gave two to the grandson). After the initial seasoning I never let soap touch them. Just use a stiff brush, light spray of Pam, dry off & store. I always mix bacon grease (melted) in the mix. Preheat the pans before cooking is the key to not sticking I think. Hodson Mill has a good recipe. BilletHead 1

How brown do you let the bread get before calling it good? Same as you once seasoned nothing gets soap. Just hot water and a nylon stiff brush or a nylon scrub pad. Then on stove top with a little heat to dry. If it isn't real carboned up like you a shot of Pam and then wiped.
