Fish24/7 Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 January is when I get walleye fever. I don't catch a bunch ,but when I get bit it's generally a keeper .It's the same thing every year. Suspending jerkbaits Or live minnows . No giants yet,but did have a couple bites yesterday. My hands are huge,so this 19" looks small One got away, this one didn't. Happened to be my 1st fish or the year Both bites were in 5-7' over 15-20' approximately. Johnsfolly, *T*, bfishn and 5 others 8
Devan S. Posted January 3, 2020 Posted January 3, 2020 Nice! I've been out on the Kings river arm of table rock 2 times now looking for them and haven't corralled them yet. Wont be long and I'll find them. terryj1024 1
Fish24/7 Posted January 21, 2020 Author Posted January 21, 2020 Well January has not been a fisherman friendly month for me. Now the lake is up 8' approx and has become brown yuk with some debris where I was fishing.Didn't get to go as much as I had hoped. Maybe February will have more opportunities! snagged in outlet 3 1
Fish24/7 Posted January 14, 2021 Author Posted January 14, 2021 Last year the rains screwed up my walleye fishing in January. Tuesday I decided to go ahead and try it for a couple hours mid afternoon. I can get to my favorite spot by boat or bank ,the wind was just a little strong to try to mess with the tiny boat ,so I fished from the bank. About thirty minutes into it I hooked a decent size walleye, probably 17-19", don't know for sure because she spit the plug right as I was about to hoist her in. Came right to the top thrashing her head like a bass. I was trying deep medium and shallow jerkbaits. Snagged two deep divers in some buck root and lost them. Even the plug knocker wouldn't un snag those ewg gamakatsu trebles.. Too deep to wade out out and get. Back to the shallow diver now. Hooked another walleye ,a dink, maybe 8". Got to touch him. Then I got a one hell of a bite. Pulled back and immediately felt those big head shakes, made about six cranks of the reel handle and it came off. Never saw it but it was something pretty big. And that's how it went, 3 bites one fish . It was probably the wind that had them up in that 8-12' zone near the bank. Will try again , the majority of my biggest walleye are caught last week of December through first week of February. rps, snagged in outlet 3 and Old dog 417 3

Devan S. Posted January 14, 2021 Posted January 14, 2021 Boat is charged up here and ready to roll out this weekend. I was finding them sporadically way up the white looking for trout. No big push yet but wont be too long. I'll give it a couple weekends up the white and then flip flop and head towards Kings.
rps Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 This time of year, besides the jerk bait and a slow sink weightless white Sluggo, try a 1/8 ounce feathered jig with a minnow. Put the hook point in the mouth and go through the bottom jaw. Turn the jig and pierce the minnow again through the ventral or pelvic fins until the hook point is just under the skin in front of the dorsal fins. Minnow stays on for quite a while and easy to hook the fish. Greenwood (Winnebago on floats) taught me this. terryj1024, Johnsfolly, dan hufferd and 1 other 3 1
