jdmidwest Posted January 14, 2020 Posted January 14, 2020 We used to hang dead crows out to attack others. When I shoot crows, I try to wing the first one. Its crippled calls and flopping around keeps the others around for additional kills. May want to try it on the cowbirds and starlings. fishinwrench 1 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

(I'm actually not joking) I have preached this one for years. I cant explain any other way people all decide to head to the checkout counter the same time I do. Or how people decide to speed up right before i put on my blinker on the highway. The next song in the radio, i was just getting ready to start singing the chorus, etc. Abstract things I think about, and never say out loud, but someone seems to talk about it shortly after. fishinwrench Posted January 15, 2020 Posted January 15, 2020 When the lake is low in the spring, the White bass have to jump over a 70 yard hump of ankle deep water to get from the lake up into the creek. Eagles and osprey's perch in nearby trees and wait for a few to try it. After one or two get snatched up, not another White will attempt it until the lake level rises enough that they can shoot over that dam of silt and gravel safely. They'll just hang out close to the mouth of the creek in a deeper pool and wait, sometimes for weeks. There's no way that any of them could have seen that the few trying it first didn't make it.....somehow they just know. Don't think that you can just catch them THERE in that deeper spot, cuz they absolutely won't bite. They won't go on a feed until they make it into the creek and get settled, then it's like they turn off all that extra sensory crap and eat everything that moves with reckless abandon. So it's like they go from being so smart that you can't catch one.....to being so stupid that you can't help but catch 50 of them.
