Fish24/7 Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Not liking the weather forecast for my area,4+" rain. My maters are still in shock from transplant, the cold nights, the nonstop winds beating them up. Now most likely heavy downpours. It's not looking too good🙁 might have to just cover them up with buckets and hope for the best if it gets too bad otherwise they are small and will get beat down by any hard rains, and too much rain they may be succeptible to root rot. Planted peppers from seed directly into the ground and they are just now popping up. Too much rain could drown them easily. Strawberries are growing bigger every day. I like to fertilize them heavily after the blooms set. It seems to really boost berry production. First harvest is gonna be sweet if everything goes smoothly! Put some watermelon seed in yesterday, they should be alright in their mounds. 🙏 tho1mas 1
N9BOW Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Lost 3/4 of maters and peppers to the cold snap even though it was all tarped.. then I woke up this morning to large black spots in the raised beds. Upon closer inspection the deer pulled up and ate what survived the cold. Time to start over for the maters and peppers. Gonna have to get repellent. either the spray on kind or some irish spring soap.. maybe both BilletHead 1

I don't have muck of a problem with tomatoes or peppers but have to use cattle panels for the lettuce bed. Less than ten yards from front porch. I'm the one that ignored Peach (my yellow lab) huffing at 3am out the window... I should have listened... She saw the tomato and pepper thieves!!!!!...GOD DOG!!!!! BAD OWNER! I have a slingshot,........... that if I had listened,........ they'd have had a welt to remember!

Yeah....Id install this!!!!!!.. but the HOA would have a problem with either that ... OR.... the shotgun or the six 8 I guess any would rile the local sensibilities ... freaking pansies! Seriously I grew up on a produce farm... use to ride around at dark with a depredation permit using a Mini 14 out of the back of a 70 Chevy Station wagon that we'd have to jump start with a screw driver across the celluloid...... Just to keep the critters at bay from the produce in the fields as it was maturing (240 acre farm).. DNR would pick up the victims and send to the mink farms!!!!! Ahhhhh the good ole days!
Terrierman Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Maybe put up a quickie electric fence with the step in posts, one line low, one line high and then make them make you take it down? Heck, claim it's a maze game for the neighbor kids. Hey! Good idea Rick! That'll learn the little bastages anyway.... Most POA bark is worse than the bite. Who's going to see it and be offended other than the POA goodie two shoes anyway? N9BOW 1
