MOPanfisher Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Some of my maters were blooming and not setting fruit a little Epsom salt in a watering can of water and viola' blooms setting fruit like mad. A few big Mayers ripening but they to split, little cherries setting on thick too. Planted some cukes late in a double metal tub deal and man are they growing well. Getting to be the time of year where I fight the crabgrass in my strawberry bed, but the grass specific herbicide is doing g it job on it, just does it slowly and it allows the weeds to cme on strong, have to water the raised bed heavy and then just pull the weeds out. Squash I planted in the cold frame spot are paying off like a broken slot machine, daily basket of small delicious squash that are good with just about anything. Since my garden was limited this year I am not locking my car at work, hoping folks fill it with produce. Terrierman 1
Terrierman Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Yellow squash running out of my ears now. Picked first Cherokee purple yesterday, others are getting close including the big beef. Cherry tomatoes are just crazy. Had a zucchini boat for supper two days ago - a real favorite. And cucumbers are coming on strong. Things are late, but finally coming on strong. tho1mas 1
BilletHead Posted July 19, 2020 Posted July 19, 2020 And it's happening. Multiple tomatoes daily now. Lots of peppers. Got some little habaneros starting, lots of mild banana peppers. Serrano's too. Jalapenos and cubanelles loading plants. Pat is hauling a load of cucumbers to work tomorrow for sharing. A friend told me a garden is the nicest and cheapest way to get fresh produce. All you have to do is wait until the gardener has his fill and starts sharing. ness and Johnsfolly 2 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" BilletHead Posted July 22, 2020 Posted July 22, 2020 First time growing Peter Pan squash. I assume a variety of Patty Pan squash. It just bloomed today. Not sure how to use it or if we will like it. Soon we will get an answer. So, so dry here. Garden is really sucking up the water. I have two little chestnut trees out of 14 that are really struggling. Not sure if they will make it. Been giving them ten gallons at a time. An IV of sorts. Slow siphon so there is no run off. Five gallon buckets. Today each got 20 gallons. Fingers crossed. we are missing all the rains. Storms seem to fizzle out or split and go around us. Farmers with no irrigation are not happy. Corn burning up in certain fields. tho1mas 1 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" BilletHead Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 The BilletHeadVille desert, But if you bring irrigation to the desert things happen. It is time to break out the dehydrator out! Just guessing there is 5 to 10 times more that will be harvestable soon. We again this season have been blessed. Bunch more cucumbers today also. Need to start picking peppers. Think I will start with serrano peppers. Some for using fresh and then smoke and dry. I think I will separate my three types of hot peppers to smoke and dry. Then grind each one and make dust from hell with each and see if I can taste the difference of each. We once bought some smoked serrano salt. Good stuff and no reason I cannot make it myself. tho1mas and Johnsfolly 2 "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!" Fish24/7 Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 👍 Picked these this morning. If I can average 18-20 off each plant per harvest should be able to keep up with the demand. Phone is ringing every day now and I can finally sell a few. Belgiums you pick em when they still have greenish shoulders otherwise if you wait till they turn all pink the bottoms start to get soft. Picked one cocktail plant this morning too. Don't know what I was thinking planting 14 of them, but people like em for salad so they should be easy to get rid of. The twin monster plants 16'wide by 8' high Really hate being a month behind schedule this season, but things are starting to look right now.
Fish24/7 Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 Belgiums, I stood on a ladder for this pic to get an overhead view .the 5' fencing I'm using this year is working great so far . Last year I didn't use it, and this year I didn't prune hardly any suckers, just keep training them to grow along the fence. So far I really like this set up.
Fish24/7 Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 I'd rather grow in the ground, but this cocktail plant in this container is doing well. Just have to water it 2x a day every day and feed more often. I've got another one growing in an old white sink that's doing pretty good too.
Fish24/7 Posted July 25, 2020 Posted July 25, 2020 This is gonna be one huge cocktail bush by the time October gets here,it's already pretty big.👇
