From two and one was my BilletHead Jr. that said it came over the radio. MDC said no fishing license needed through a certain date. He told me but my pea brain did not retain it. That and no fee at the trout parks.

I got an email from MDC announcing that they had started this free fishing thing.  They encouraged people to go fishing as a way to get out and "Social Distance".

Then they said they would no longer be stocking trout in the parks.  Kind of ironic.

Parks are still open, they ought to still stock some trout and go to catch and release IMO.

Arkansas also went to free fishing, no license, but it is only for this week.

Maryland and Delaware both have waived license renewals through the middle of April. Maryland is an annual from the date of purchase (mine is due for renewal April 4th) and Delaware is from Jan1 to Dec 31st only (I already have that purchased). I believe that most states will follow suit if they have not already.

I guess most regular anglers already  have made that purchase in most states so the only ones benefiting are the folks put out of work by the panic and maybe fisheries managers hope to recruit some new blood that will purchase after the free ride is over. I know I always buy in advance just so i don't screw up and forget it that day. Obviously this is to protect the permit sales force from having to deal with thousands of "can't do anything else, let's try fishing" people up close, rather than any concerns about getting people outside. It's distancing the public from state employees, an abundance of caution, as they say.

I feel very much cheated in that I paid $3 extra for the annual trout and now they won't stock the areas where it's good. Putting out the usual 23 trout per stream per month wouldn't hurt them much and there is just about zero chance crowds are going to make the effort to fish these white ribbon creeks.
