As I watch the end of the MLF Heavy Hitters tourney I wanted to pose a question to the forum...

If you had to target a single heavy bass in the June/July time frame, what lure and what structure would you target?

And to answer my own question, myself personally I've had the best luck with a 4" Lake Fork flutter spoon, chrome.

We get down to TRL one week a year, and its always end of June.

The water temps are usually elevated, as is the boat traffic. Water levels often vary, but the flutter spoon on some bluff walls works the best for me.

Personal best for me with that setup is little over 5 pounds. Not a giant, but still fun to catch that time of year.

That time of year is too early to fish the channel edges on my upper end. It is too late to find shallow fish after the morning feed, although there should still be a good morning top water spell. The big fish, for me, are out on the flat points near but not on the roll offs. Bo's Nutech jigs in pbj with a craw trailer would be my first try. A C rig with a floating lizard would be second.

Some will also be hanging in tree tops, probably 15 to 25 feet down. Take lots of jig heads and swim a keitech through the tops of those trees.

The real gem advice will be Babler if he chimes in.

Can’t speak for TR, but on the pond to the East, given halfway normal lake levels, I’d throw a spook over timbered bluffs during that time frame. Any shade will help, but I’ve caught a couple big ones during the day as well.

A spook, even more so than the sammy, will sometimes call them up.

I'm cranking a 6XD (probably splatter back or Crankwraps crappie pattern) with normal water levels.  On Bull it's a big jig or a Zoom ol Monster worm in black grape.  That thing slays over there in the heat.

Buzzbaits early around Bream Beds, 5or 8inch magnum flutter spoons in boat docks, or Big Cranking plugs in River Arms or Secondary points in big Creek arms. Don't leave the ramp without a big football jig or 10inch power worm.  7inch or bigger Swimbait of your choice. Depends on generation activity or lake levels. Conditions always vary on these lakes. If I had to pick, Whopper Plopper 130 on any cover that I come across.
