fishinwrench Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Yep, they have run me out of my shop every evening for the last 4 days. The whole town of Gravi is covered in them. Happens every year but usually in August and never as severe. So they are early and HEAVY!

They have some massive hatches on the upper Mississippi. He called me in 2014 and told me to check out his local radar. I did see this video image live when it was happening. fishinwrench Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 I have seen hatches like the ones in those videos on the Salt river. Turns the fishing off like crazy, I assume the fish just gorge on them until they are so full they can't eat another bite. My grandpa had the window cracked open on his station wagon and they literally filled the car overnight. It was pretty nasty the next morning, they even suffocated a lit Coleman lantern. BilletHead 1

Devan S. Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 I've seen butterflies in mass like that in south Tx around Dilley and Cotulla. Driving in the middle of the day would sound like rain hitting the windshield there is so many. I doubt they ever set off doppler radar though. Out at the farm the flies are horrendous right now. Probably the worst I have seen in my lifetime. Maybe its a bad year for bugs.

I cannot go out into yard without a sprayed straw hat and even with this the things drill me on the neck. I cannot walk on the dirt road even. They chase and ping off our vehicles. Once you get away from the timber part of the road it is all horse flies.
