In preparation for the new TM and sonar install, I removed rods, tackle, and other items from the boat.

This afternoon, I went through all the plano boxes, reorganized, removed items I had not used since the last reorganization three years ago, and repaired the baits I had put off repairing. I have also upgraded a few rods and reels.

Present count on rods/reels is eight. A spinning Ned rig rod for guests, a casting Ned rig rod for me, a heavy jig rod that I also use for the one large swim bait I carry and the large size whopper plopper, a topwater rod, a crankbait rod, a finesse jig and worm rod, a medium heavy rod for normal worming and spinner baits, and a trolling rod. All are hand made. I have a backup trolling rod and a lead core rod in the garage if needed.

I now have 15 Plano boxes of baits for the boat. I will add one more. Highlights: 4 boxes of topwater baits - walkers, wakers, poppers, and large walkers and ploppers. 4 boxes of trolling baits sorted by depth and style. 3 boxes of warts and crawlers, a box of vertical spoons, a box of grubs, a box of craws/creatures, a box of lead and hooks to fish these. I will add a new box for the finesse worms. The Ned stuff is in a canvas folder bag. I also have a modest spinner bait box that makes 17.

To reach the point above, I culled about a box and a half worth.

How does this compare to your setup?

He should share his list. Depending on what he goes after each trip I am surprised he has room for himself and a guest in his choice of boat for the day :)

I carry way too much, but rarely can’t shift gears to meet the situation.  I often have folks in my boat sharing my gear so that is part of the reason, but mostly I am a tackle w——.   I normally fish for walleye and stripers, some crappie and some bass form the boat.  I can deploy six trolling rods(4 with OS planers) and carry 4 lead core and 4 10# braid; I also carry 6 spinning and 10 bait casting rods in addition to the trolling rods for various applications.  I have 16 - 3710 boxes below deck as well as a half dozen smaller boxes in strategic places as well as 4 Special Mate crank bait boxes in the cockpit.  It is REDICULOUS,.  It won’t likely change.

3 medium spinning, 1 crappie, 1 jig rod (ned/crawler), and 1 multipurpose with metered braid, can be used for trolling, spoons, whatever.

2 medium casting with line counters. One has lead core. 1 other medium casting. Also has metered braid for trolling.

I'd carry more rods if I had one of the nice center rod boxes. 6 is pretty much all that will fit in my side box.

I have 5 Plano trays, one with crappie jigs, one cranks, one jerkbaits, one with junk, and one with spoons, jigging raps, whatever. I also have an empty Plano bag with soft plastics, line, and other junk in it.

I really only use crappie jigs, cranks, and ned/jig and crawler.

I left off the list the pool noodles with crawler harnesses and the bottom bouncers I once carried. Until I establish the lake has a fishable walleye population, those stay home.

And yes, there is room for a guest as long as he doesn't bring more than 2 or 3 rods and a carry bag of tackle and a lunch/drink bag. Ask Quillback.

@BilletHead has a cruel streak. He knows I will be impulsively drawn to answer, but that it is all but impossible for me too answer.
“what do I have in the boat?” Lots and lots and lots, but it changes often with the seasons, on the target species, and lake level, and and and.
If I was ever completely dialed in to the bite AND absolutely sure of the target species, I do have the ability to carry minimal amounts of tackle. Ask @Quillback, most recent Redear trip, I only brought 3 rods, worms, and a single tackle bag.
There is a thread coming, but yesterday, I had an adventure. Lewis and Clark stuff. Never fished there. Didn’t know what species were available. Water color? Flow rate? Etc. planned for everything. I got there. Dialed in. Focused on 3 lures the rest of the day. Lot of stuff was in my way and not needed, but so it goes.

You bet,  that is a roomy boat you have.

And kudos to Ham for traveling "light", even though it was only one bag he had with him, it was heavy enough that it could be left out on the deck when we were using the main motor to move around - and it did not budge.  Had to get on plane with that bag weighing down the back of the boat.  And that was just his panfish stuff.  😀

Let’s hope my wife never sees this thread!

Current Rod Count:  9

3 spinning rods- one for swimbait (always tied on), 2 others for ned, neko, drop shot depending on season.

6 casting rods:  2 top water rods, 2 jig/worm rods, 2 “general use” rods I use for cranks/spinner baits/jerkbaits.

All the rods stay in the boat for the most part.  I do try to rotate my tackle so I am not hauling everything all the time but when I am full loaded it looks like this:

2 crank bait boxes- 1 for Warts/RK’s and 1 for deep divers

1 jerk bait box

1 Plano Edge jig box

2 Topwater boxes- one for smaller stuff like spoons and pop-rs snd one for big stuff like ploppers and big pencil baits

1 vertical box with spoons and ice jigs

1 box of flukes

1 terminal tackle box- (about add another for finesse tackle)

1 Ned box with ned heads and TRDs

I have a few different soft plastic storage devices but I am switching things over to Bass Mafia Money bags.  I have one bag each of: swimbaits, Creatures/trailers, worms, and tubes.

A spinner bait folder

I am a big fan of the Plano Edge boxes but man, they are proud of them!  Also, Academy has a H2O brand terminal tackle locker that is really nice and under $15.

I don’t know what light means.  Right now I am carrying 10 bait casters 9 spinning setups but I am only fishing for bass.  I have no idea about the baits as I make most of mine.  The bass baits are in the boat and the other stuff is in my bait closet.

It depends on the time of year and the lake, but I try to cull as much as I can. It’s still a lot, but I’m a better fisherman if I keep the tackle options at a minimum and concentrate on finding fish.
