One of the interesting things about fishing for walleye up there was dealing with the current in the lake, it was just basically about like Lake Taneycomo, except with more boulders. We would typically use a 5/8 oz jig head with live minnows. Usually vertical jig at about 35 ft deep. For some reason it seemed 35 ft was the magical number for those 20” walleye. The perfect eaters. Another thing that was cool (taught to me by the Indian guide) is when the walleye stopped biting very abruptly, that meant a huge musky came into the area. That big Musky in the first pic was caught exactly that way....except I was using a little yellow grub.

Fished Lake of the Woods with my Grandpa, uncles, and cousins when I was 12. It was March, weather was decent but they still had  3-4 feet of ice.

Jigged up a lot of nice walleyes. Used a swedish pimple with a minnow head, and another dead stick rod. Caught some nice jumbo perch, and a bonus tulibee.

I came back red as a Tomato, sunburn from the sun's reflection on the ice and snow.

I was at Rocky Island Lake With Grandad and Grandma Just before I left for the Army.   Caught a 40+ Northen from the beach, Elvis died that day.  We heard it on the a.m.   Wish I still had that Airstream.
