Ham Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Last December, I set some lofty fishing goals. Aim High right? I had hopes for 75 species with 13 Lifers. Once it became apparent that I would reach those goals “early”, I had to raise the bar. I’m not even sure I had ever gotten to 50 species in a year before, but if you’re gonna get to 75 maybe by the end of September, your goal can’t be 80. I have set my sights on 100 species for the year. This might be my best chance to ever get there so I’m gonna try really hard to do so. *** Fair Warning *** This is going to become a picture heavy thread. I’m going to try to post pictures of each of the species along the way. I don’t have pictures of all of them. My pompano that I caught in Destin flopped back into the surf while I was fumbling with my phone. Please just look away if this silliness annoys you. I’m super excited by this goofy quest, but if you aren’t Please Mute this thread or add me to you ignore list. I am aware that at times between haste, glare, clumsiness, and aging eyes that my pics are not Ansel Adams worthy. Mia Culpa. Wish me Luck! Quillback Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Have you caught a flathead this year? Fairly tough one to get IMO on rod and reel. Ham 1
timinmo Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Wish you the best in your quest. Just because it is not "my" quest doesn't mean I can't enjoy your journey. Ham and Daryk Campbell Sr 2

I have not gotten a flathead yet. Certainly, that is a target species. I know a guy. Little Red Fisherman might be able to help a brother out. I catch a few accidentally, but I’ve going to have to target one. Quillback 1 Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish

I usually get one or two a year from Table Rock and it is usually this time of year and it is incidental to bass fishing. Talked to a buddy that had one to the boat a couple of days ago that he estimated at 30 lbs., he didn't want to put it in the boat so tried to use his pliers as the fish was hooked in the corner of the mouth (spoon), but in the process the fish broke off. So would you count that as a 'catch' if you got it to the boat and it got off in the process of trying to release it? I would, based on I would've landed it if I decided to net it. Johnsfolly Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 I got to 83 species last year and know how this type of goal can be all consuming. It will take effort and travel which I know that you are prepared to do and have trips planned. You may even go to one spot catch one fish and then need move to another spot to get a different fish. Good luck buddy. Switch your bar jack and yellow jack photos and you're good😉. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
