Smithvillesteve Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 I heard there was a bad boating accident this morning up around the Big m area this morning. Two boats collided leaving 2 people dead. You boys heard anything? Sad deal.
Quillback Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 No, have not heard anything. I know someone that lives near there, I will see if they do.
Quillback Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 I talked to someone who knows an Emerald Beach resident that was knowledgeable about what happened and it looks to be a bad accident. Now mind you this is what I heard so I'm not saying any of this is written in concrete. 2 bass boats collided near Emerald Beach, one boat went over the top of the other, killing both occupants in the boat that was ridden over. Father and son being the victims. Don't know how many were in the other boat and to what extent they were injured. Accident happened around 8 AM. No fog or anything hampering visibility. MSUFisherBear Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 That's awful and prayers out to the families involved. There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind. ~Washington Irving
magicwormman Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 WOW! So sad! Our thought and prayers to all involved! Just another reason that we ALL need to be ready to go! Champ188 1
Quillback Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 KY3 news update. The Missouri Water Patrol is investigating a deadly crash after two bass boats collided on Table Rock Lake. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a father and son from Gentry, Arkansas were killed in the crash. Investigators say Ted Dossett, 55, and his 14-year-old son died from injuries. Next of kin have been notified. Investigators say the crash happened in the Viney Creek Area around 7:30 a.m. Friday, less than a mile west of Point 24. That area is north of Golden, Mo. near Emerald Beach. According to MSHP, an unknown factor caused one boat, driving two people, to cross the path of a second boat. The boats hit head-on. One boat launched over the other boat. liphunter and BilletHead 2
fishinwrench Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 Just awful 😔 The benchmark for a "good bass boat" nowadays is over 70 mph. I don't even like running that fast on perfectly slick water. I actually miss the old 150 rule. Not sure why it had to be changed.

My little rig at WOT and trimmed hits 37 mph. 5000 rpm equates to 30 mph. That meant I could easily fish TR as far down stream as Emerald Beach and upstream as far as 62 bridge. Unless you are fishing for a living, why would you need anything faster? Even for them, if a max hp limit is in place for all competitors, why does that number need to be 300? Bill changes his launch point to adjust and save time and money. The rest of us should learn to do the same. Do not get me wrong, a collision at 45 will still kill people but 45 allows more reaction time and better surviving odds. Just my two cents. fishinwrench, magicwormman, terryj1024 and 3 others 6
fishinwrench Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 150's used to push the big old Ranger 390 series sleds around just fine. Lots of miles covered and lots of tournaments won out of them. I have no clue what caused this accident, but if they ran completely over the top of them.... somebody was haulingass.
sfiser Posted September 19, 2020 Posted September 19, 2020 I know the victims daughter well. Not sure which boat was at fault but a tough situation for all involved. Just a reminder to keep your head on a swivel out there and be safe! Quillback, magicwormman and fishinwrench 3
