Anyone regardless of age needs a trout stamp if they are fishing on Lake Taneycomo above the 65 highway bridge. You can fish below the 65 bridge without a trout stamp but you cannot possess or keep trout. Catch and release only.

Looks like the cash cows, sorry, Elk Farmers, have made it a need for a youth trout permit, $5.

Youth Trout Permit

I was confused by that youth trout permit deal when they don’t need an actual fishing license. I renewed my trout permit online, but it wasn’t easy to buy one for a youth that hasn’t been in the system yet.  I’m headed down tomorrow, may stop and get him a license at Lilly’s when I pick up some hot baits.

It is sort of confusing. 2 members of my party in Sept had to buy the stamps to fish for the few hours we were there.

I think the phone app is the easiest way to go, just make sure you have the kiddo's SS# ready or no dice.

Same rule that applies to old folks, no general fishing permit but must have Trout permit on Taney or for winter fishing in the Parks.  I can fish all the trout streams without the permit as long as I don't keep trout. I don't need a hunting permit, but do have to have Deer and Migratory Bird if I hunt them. I think; but I always  reread the regs when in doubt, I have the Code bookmarked here https://www.sos.mo.gov/adrules/csr/current/3csr/3csr.asp

Yelp had to get my Trout Permit for the river.

Back when I was a kid there was 7 Kids in the Boat on Taney not a Trout Permit one for us. Agent was cool just said we needed one.

I still believe some buy Park Permit then fish the river for Trout.
