luckycraft Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 They sure are cute. Not quite to that “hundred dollar a day phase”. Where they wreck or chew up 100 dollars worth of your stuff ..... still worth every penny! fishinwrench 1

Back in the day I had a bird dog that if left alone, and the closet door was open, he'd chew exactly one of my ex wife's shoes. I mean totally destroy it, and she didn't have inexpensive tastes. Never so much as sniffed one of mine. He did this until the day we were invited to leave the homestead. Dogs are smart.

I would not want a solo canoe under 14' long. Current solo is a 15' Mad River. I owned a Pack for many years, and my experience was that it was not wobbly at all. Why? I suspect it was because I moved the seat forward significantly. When I got mine, it WAS wobbly. But the seat placement was WAY too far back. If the seat isn't in the widest part of a solo canoe, it will be ridiculously wobbly. I moved my seat forward to where the front edge was just a couple inches from the center of the canoe, and that fixed the problem completely. Terrierman 1
Al Agnew Posted November 12, 2020 Posted November 12, 2020 To add something to what I said to Gavin, seat placement in a solo canoe is extremely important. If you go the Discovery 119 route, get the plain jane Disco 119, and NOT the "Sportsman" package with the molded seat. Unless they changed it, the seat in that one is too far back, and not easy to move forward, while the seat in the plain Disco 119 is about where it should be.

I have a 119 and moved mine back a dropped it. Handles like a 169 only better. I tried it before changing the factory settings and it was like paddling a wobbly inner tube! As a side note, solo’s sides are lower than tandems and thus you don't have as much liberty at leaning without taking on water. I looked upriver to see where Britt was. He was about 30 yards upstream working on his gear in his boat kind of resting up against the bank. I look back down and finish tieing on my lure and take a quick glance back upstream at Britt. And he is upside down in the river!! It couldn't have been 10 seconds. He speaks from experience.
