I fish within your 5 county area and do just as well at low lake levels, just have to adjust to the first shoal.

Gotta call BS on ya there.   At a lake level of 653-654 the "first shoal" is 100- 200 yards wide across the flat with very low CFS and gin clear water.   Even calling it a "shoal" is a bit of a stretch.

I knew where the White were at this time.....and they were 2 1/4 miles away in 15 FOW, and were easier to snag in the side, than it was to get them to chase or bite anything.

Agree fly fishing them will they are piled in there is not the hot setup, but they will smoke certain crank baits drug along the bottom - as a bonus there are normally BIG female crappie staged at the same time and filling up the live wells with a mixed limit is not too hard.  Won’t be long.

I've been wanting to get into fly fishing for bigger species for a little while now, but I spent so much money on duck hunting equipment this year this year I figured I better give the bank account a rest. Yesterday I was in the Bass Pro outlet and found a Redington 8wt, Cabelas SR3 reel, and a Rio sinking line all for about $100. They may not be the most elegant setup in the world but I ran it by a couple people who are better acquainted with fly fishing stuff than I am and they both said those pieces of kit will fish just fine. I also stopped by the fly shop and grabbed stuff to tie up some different fly patterns so hopefully I will be ready for some white bass on a fly rod this year!

Can't go wrong with clouser tied in chart and white. Try Taylor bridge on the little sac. Look at that forum as well lot of good advice to be had. Another great resource is @billethead ...he is a very helpful forum member. You're it ia very similar to my own and will slay whites if you do it right. I prefer a floating lin and longer leader with my clouser but to each his own. Small craft fur clouser with bead chain eye under a float can be deadly as well.

I have access to some private land not far from there where we duck hunt. Usually do pretty well there as far as the white bass go.

I tied some crappie jigs for a friend of mine the other day and liked the way they looked. I think I’m going to try some clousers in the same color schemes.

When was that?

Year before last?

I don’t know where the pics from last spring are but we didn’t do as well. Keep in mind we aren’t spending a lot of days trying to make it happen. We go. We catch fish. Sometimes we catch more than other times. But I can only think of a few times since high school when we didn’t find something.

Thoses will catch a white. I 'll tie clousers on a #6 with dumbell eyes but if I'm fishing around some brush and getting hung up I'll use flies tied on plain leadhead jigs, cheaper. Not pretty ones like yours.

The answer may not lie at the bottom of a glass, but you should always check

It was my first attempt at tying jigs. I'm pleased with how they turned out. The craft fur and eyes I already had so all I needed were the jig heads. They were $9.50 for 50 plus another $5 per 50 to have them powdercoated so I'm not out much.
