I can hear them way up there in the darkness, headed in a North-Northeast direction.

Not quacking, or honking, but more of a Raspy...... "peep-peep......peep-peep...... peep-peep".

Teals?

Woody's?

Coots?

Something else entirely?

What are they?   🤔

They seem confused around here.  Heading up the river 2 weeks ago, then reversed course and were going back south all last week.

The tone of their "peeping" makes me think they were a smaller bird.

Wigeon, teal and pintail will peep. Sometimes two or three times in a row.  Google up waterfowl sounds.

The calls you want to search are Night Flight Calls or NFC, most birds seem to migrate at night and scientist record and count them.

We have been seeing flocks of swans and large flocks of snow geese lately. Likely that they are headed back north.
