I’m so far away from getting one I quit worrying about it. Not worth worrying if I can’t do anything about it. Your article is from Friday. I worked Saturday and didn’t see that Sunday. Sorry I guess.

MOPanfisher Posted February 23, 2021 Posted February 23, 2021 If memory serves the vaccine has to be thawed and diluted to the proper mix, as it comes concentrated. Once thawed and mixed it's vibility is only a few hours. Of course the cold storage, mix rate etc is likely different for each one (Moderna or pfizer). You don't want to run away any folks in line to get shots if you have the vaccine there, so you make sure you have enough thawed and mixed to do them all. Some is gonna get tossed almost for sure. Almost assuredly the mass vaccination location is not gonna have the freezers on hand to keep the vaccine at -80 or whatever the requirement is, so they will be utilizing coolers and dry ice to extend the viability and time in "holding". That is part of the reason it is so tricky to have the correct amount on hand for a large event, and to utilize appointments to know how many to expect, along with the ones who just show up hoping to get a shot without an appointment. The short term viability after mixing is not unusual, when I got my "kill everything" chemo for my BMT it had a viability of 30 minutes after mixing, or they had to start over. I remember because I was nervous as a politician in front of a grand jury, and asked if I could go pee before they stuck the IV needle in, NOPE, but once we start we can roll everything down the hall and you can go. snagged in outlet 3 and Terrierman 2
oneshot Posted February 23, 2021 Author Posted February 23, 2021 I don’t know. She told me three canceled had couple come no appointment so all was good. She said they had to give three shots a minute. oneshot snagged in outlet 3 1
fishinwrench Posted February 23, 2021 Posted February 23, 2021 What are y'all gonna do, if 3-5 years down the road they discover.... "Oooopsy, that vaccine we pushed is causing people's belly buttons to bleed profusely, and all of their offspring have nipples on their eyelids. Plus the level of lactose intolerance, Diverticulitis, and gluten allergies has skyrocketed"? Your amount of trust in the medical profession and the government is concerning me. It's as if they've never screwed anything up before. 😔 Deadstream and snagged in outlet 3 1 1

Nope. It's not diluted. Comes in vials that contain X number of doses. X = 6 for now though there is usually some vaccine left over after 6. So there is discussion/applications to allow maybe 8 doses per vial. And now Pfizer has data that normal freezers are fine. Asking for CDC approval for easing up on the storage requirements. Hope and trust that will happen soon to ease up on the whole vaccination backlog problem. MOPanfisher 1

And personally I do put a LOT of faith in the medical profession.
