That one is being trained.  It started out as a Field Ferret.  It then works its way up through Flowerbed Ferret, Marsh Mink, Orchard Polecat, and someday....Garden Weasel.

I see it is a maturity thing. How old until they get retired and put out to pasture like a normal ferret?

The average life expectancy of a ferret is 6 years.  Learning is stressful on the poor mindless critters.  1 year per stage.  After that, they are furry fertilizer, and ferrets aren't the most pleasant-smelling of critters even while still alive.  Cute, though.  We used to have one as a pet, and my first college roomie illegally kept one in our room for most of the year.

That family of mammals are neat but can be mean creatures. Never did mind the smell of skunk at a distance light smell. Liked the smell of mink when I trapped them. Would know I had one before I got there. The otter I trapped did not have a discernable odor I could tell. I felt that was strange.

I never minded the smell of a skunk at a distance either. Then a couple bird dogs I know got sprayed and expected a ride back from western KS. And after that they wanted to sleep inside too.

It changed me :D

We had two ferrets in college. Lots of fun and pains in the butt. Best fun was their inquisitive nature. Watching them push their face into a plastic cup all over the floor. Great times. Their heads fit into a paper towel tube and they like to swing that around when they get stuck 🤣.

Our male Bob loved partially deflated mylar balloons next to the couch. He would jump from the couch onto the balloon. Then repeat. Very funny as well.

In case you lost something in translation related to the weasel we were doing a garden parody of the tool oneshot was wanting to get earlier in the post. Not making the weasel compost.  Although skunks are a PIA and should be buried once dead.

I can tell you for an absolute fact that a buzzard is not put off by a skunk's odor.  Buzzards gotta eat too, same as worms.
