aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted April 19, 2021 Posted April 19, 2021 Hey Glen and tricks on an xr6 to get the bendix to engage? It is starting to stick and doesnt want to pop up into the flywheel. And sometime it doesnt want to disengage and go back down. I sprayed it with some PB blaster teflon dry lube. The starter is spinning just fine, hate to buy a whole new starter.

A failing solenoid will only allow partial voltage to pass through, and they can also STICK keeping the starter energized even after the key switch is turned off. Typically the bendix will not fall back down until the engine starts and the flywheel forces it back down. So that's normal. There is a cushion (hub) inside the starter drive gear (bendix) that prevents damage.....should it actually stick in the "engaged" position. dtrs5kprs 1
rps Posted April 19, 2021 Posted April 19, 2021 This is a classic example of what I do not know. These gentlemen are speaking gibberish to each other. What I do not know about boats and engines fills a large blog. dtrs5kprs and Daryk Campbell Sr 1 1

aarchdale@coresleep.com Posted April 19, 2021 Author Posted April 19, 2021 New battery this year. my volt meter said 13.5 at the solenoid. i never let it actually start when i cranked it in my shop so that makes since why it didnt go back down. this boat has done this before i bought it from my dad. you would always here the started spin but the bendix didnt always work. yesterday was the first time i actually had to take the hood off and mess with it on the water. its very intermittent. it actually has a pull rope mounted inside the hood, i can imagine pull starting a 150 lol dtrs5kprs 1

Sold my tracker with an Optimax on it and im pretty happy with the old carbed xr6. So simple and wrench can usually fix it via internet or a phone call. heck he talked me through how to delete the junk oil pump over the phone. After reading all the horror stories online with optimax's i sleep better now dtrs5kprs 1

Low voltage to the starter (caused by loose/dirty connections, dead battery, or failing solenoid). OR.... Bad brushes and corroded armature contacts in the starter (requires a starter rebuild to rectify) OR.... Cruddy/Dry shaft and drive gear (bendix). (Clean with parts cleaner spray, blow dry, and then lube liberally with Silicone spray or a few drops of 2-stroke oil (never put grease on it). dtrs5kprs 1

My dad got this boat 12 years ago with what the guy said 50hrs (estimate) its imaculate under the hood so i think it was pretty new and the starter has always kinda (kicked out) as i call it basically just not engaging. But yesterday was the first time i actually had to pull the hood and tap it to make it work Im going crappie fishing tomorrow, going to launch close to where im fishing. ill see what happens since i put that dry lube on it. hope its that simple. My starting battery is fresh and havent had an issue with it running 3 graphs and that pesky livescope. Garmins all say over 12v all the time
