1998 225 hp Mercury efi problem

Recommended Posts

I was running on plane the other day, my engine went from top speed to an idle. It would not accelerate enough to get on plane again. Idle seems ok. No power.  Changed spark plugs didn’t change anything. Any suggestions?

Have the voltage regulator(s) tested first (at idle).  If that tests ok, then test the HIGH SPEED circuit stator output on both banks.

Odds are that you have a stator AND switch box failure.    If you replace JUST the stator you'll likely be buying yet ANOTHER stator within 25 hours of run time.   So if stator HS output is not up to spec.....replace stator AND switchboxes.

You can sell the old switchboxes (separately) to someone needing a 3 cylinder switchbox.....but they'll never be safe on a V6 again.
