fishinwrench Posted May 28, 2021 Posted May 28, 2021 I asked an ex water patrolman how they intended to enforce that. He said they likely wouldn't be "checking everyone" but they could use that excuse to pull over anyone they felt like "checking out" or sniffing their breath. They gotta have a legitimate legal reason to pull over and detain folks. Now they have one. The main reason for the new law, however, is so that if a runaway boat does damage or kills someone then the owner/operator can be effectively charged with a crime that can't be easily lawyered away. And if your boat runs over YOU then your life insurance company is off the hook. Gotta protect those insurance companies!

Members pjlures Posted May 28, 2021 Members Posted May 28, 2021 Good idea to use the cut off switch for safety. I did write life insurance for years and know of no wording in a personally bought policy that could let a company deny a claim if you failed to have the cut off switch on. The good news is they will have to pay....the bad news is the guy who wasn't wearing the cut off switch won't be around for the party.

If you do something ILLEGAL that causes you to die, it can very well cancel your life insurance. Doing something stupid is one thing, but doing something both stupid and illegal.... is a whole 'nother thing. I had an old friend that crashed and killed himself at 3:am while drunk as hell. Guess what amount the beneficiaries of his life insurance received after that? Zip! The full coverage on his sweetass new car didn't pay off either. The people of our town had to pitch in together to pay for his funeral, and the kids lost the house.
Members pjlures Posted May 29, 2021 Members Posted May 29, 2021 As I said a personally purchased policy. I of course, don't know what kind of life policy it was but some group type policies may have exceptions. Individual policies may have an exclusion for suicide but that is generally for only the first 2 years. Even suicide with in the first two years the company will return premium paid. If you have risky job or hobby like sky diving and you don't disclose it or if you don't disclose a medical condition there is generally only a 2 year contestiblity period. After that they are on the risk. Some policies will charge you more for some risky behavior or allow you to sign a waiver for that behavior. Generally offer you a policy with a surcharge. Riding wild bulls or sky diving or scuba diving over 30 feet or so might be a few examples. Again I don't know the whole circumstances you are talking about. snagged in outlet 3 and Daryk Campbell Sr 2

Just ask any biologist😂 The man WROTE policy's (sold insurance), he didn't do the payoffs. I've had enough experience dealing with insurance payouts, that I'm confident in what I'm telling ya. Armchair my @$$ ! I deal with insurance companies on a monthly (sometimes weekly) basis. I know exactly how they roll. snagged in outlet 3 1

All these "fully insured" guys out there fishing all these tournaments, and guiding...... How many do you think are PROPERLY insured? When they smack a log and bust their gearcase, and their insurance co. learns that they were fishing a sanctioned tournament, or on a guide trip..... Guess who pays me to replace that lower unit? 😂
