1926 Old Town Canoe restoration

Anyone on here have any firsthand experience in restoring old canvas canoes?

my uncle pulled this out of storage the other day.  1926 Old Town Otca.

Looks like someone already tried coating it with Flex-Seal.  🙄

I wondered about that flex seal comment too.  What's wrong with it that needs restoring?  Ribs and gunwales look good in the photo.  Thwarts are an easy fix.

The inside of the floor looks coated with Flex-Seal to me.   About 50lbs. worth of it.

When was YOUR last time? 

They even coated part of the seat frames and thwarts with it. 

I definitely wouldn't wanna eat a hotdog cooked over the bonfire I tossed it on. 😅

Here is another shot.  Gunwhale damage, at least 1 rib splintered, and an Earl Scheib paint job….😆

Looks like they were getting close to the end of the second gallon when they got to the bow...

 

But Bygod they stretched it out as good and evenly as they could. 😁
