Ryan Miloshewski Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 Came down because I got the itch on Thursday. Night fished three nights and it really could not be any better right now. I had multiple fish hit after about 5 seconds of the fly being in the water. Other than that, most came on the swing (some on the strip after the swing). Landed four fish over 20-inches in 2.5 days. All on a sculpin (during the day), pine squirrel, slump buster, and dub leech. The fish are so fat and healthy, and eager to eat. Go anywhere in the first 3 miles and you'll catch fish. Met a guy, Ryne, Thursday night and we fished together. He used to fish with Vince Elfrink and @laker67 when he went to College of the Ozarks. Pretty good stories about those two! Must not have told him to remember his wading boots, though. Had to wear chocos. Braver man than I! Be back down in a week.. Ryan Miloshewski Posted August 9, 2021 Author Posted August 9, 2021 I've been night fishing Taney with a fly rod for years. And I can honestly say right now is about the best I've seen it since 2009. It is absolutely phenomenal. If you have the ability to do it, do it. You don't have to go in the middle of the night. Good rule of thumb is when you can clearly see the dam lights casting a glare in the fog, you're good to go. I started at 9:30 and went to 11:30pm last night and I bet I landed 45 fish. The bad pic I posted, fish half in the net and rest cut off, was close to my PB rainbow. It went over 24-inches. If it was 1-lb, it was 7-lbs. She took me to my backing. But, I won.. Ryan Miloshewski Posted August 9, 2021 Author Posted August 9, 2021 @laker67 Rick, who was it that used to use lighted indicators at night back in the day? “To those devoid of imagination a blank place on the map is a useless waste; to others, the most valuable part.”--Aldo Leopold
fshndoug Posted August 9, 2021 Posted August 9, 2021 Laker67 used to use one of those little light sticks with a drilled out cork. laker67 1

First got the idea by watching 3 guys from KC using spinning rods and those big ole lighted crappie or catfish floats. Bought some light sticks and indicators from walmart, drilled a bigger hole, and painted the indicator black to cut down on the glare. All you could see was about an 1/8th inch of light on each end. Jeff Duclos used some nylon tubing to attach the lighted part to his leader. I recall fishing with Ryne on occasion. I remember running into him one evening right after he had caught a nice 7lber. I first started fishing at night back in the 70's. Dave Betherem from springfield, a local nicknamed "Doc", and myself were about the only fly rodders after dark. Lots of bait fishermen and lots of huge stringers of trout taken out. In the mid 2000's is when the night time crowds over flowed the water that we had to fish. 50 guys on Saturday night was not uncommon. Ryan Miloshewski, BilletHead, Johnsfolly and 1 other 4

Even day time crowds were nothing like today. laker67 1
fshndoug Posted August 9, 2021 Posted August 9, 2021 social media is responsible for the large crowds. snagged in outlet 3 and laker67 1 1

I really noticed it when MDC put all of their places to fish online. Places near STL that were little known of were suddenly packed. Seemed to happen overnight. I quit going to them and I’m thinking about selling my pond prowler from it. laker67 1
