curtisce Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 I was up fishing in South Dakota this last week. The lake that contains mostly smallmouth and some largemouth I caught this smaller bass. The mouth looks smaller than what I would expect for a large mouth but the coloration was certainly more of that of a large mouth. Thinking maybe they were mean mouth what is the opinion of others on the forum? Gavin 1 The answer may not lie at the bottom of a glass, but you should always check
Mitch f Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 I will say that the scales with the darker periphery above the lateral line look slightly off what I would consider to be the “Model” largemouth look. But in general it looks very largemouth. Maybe it’s just that South Dakota Largies look different than southern largemouth. snagged in outlet 3 and Daryk Campbell Sr 2 "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Al Agnew Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 100% largemouth. And note: on smaller largemouth, especially under about 10-11 inches, the maxillary (upper jaw) does NOT extend beyond the eye. You cannot use that to ID the little ones. curtisce 1
