A fine young Man had me in tears this morning.

Got a text from Micah this morning. Any of you that have been on OAF for a few years might remember my young friend. If you don't I will jog your memory with this,

                  So to the text.

Just finished up this trip. It was a blast. We killed 76 birds in three days, Took my new bird dog as well. Then these pictures.

I responded Micah you have no idea how proud I am of you.

Then came this text and I lost it.

I want to thank you for introducing me to bird hunting. It came at a perfect time as my football career came to an end. I needed a new hobby.

I can't think of a better complement to get from a very special young friend. Again, I choke up. I remember when Micah was a little bitty kid and how much his Grandfather Richard would light up talking about Micah.

Remember guys we reap what we sow. This is a perfect example. Micah wants to try to come up in January for a late hunt. Oh, how I hope this can happen.

How cool is all that?? That's a great story, for sure.

And a good looking GSP too. I wonder if he's a swimmer?

Nice work, Marty.

Thanks buddy. I really need to stay closer and visit more with Micah more. I figure I may need him to haul my old carcass in and out of the marsh someday :). I'll ask him more about the dog.

There have been many, many, many, many guys who got me into waterfowling and "changed" me from a deer hunter. Johnny Everhart, Dan Guyer, Dave Holtzknecht, Kenny Kieser. It means a lot to us when you show us the ropes and start a fire that can't be put out!

Great job.  Mentor is a big part of life, we have to keep it going.  The world is loosing alot and we need to pass it along before we go.

I have been out of it now for 5 years.  Almost went to the duck lake this week, but something came up.  My grandson is almost ready for a shotgun.  I am saving my strength for him.  Then there are 3 more coming up the ranks, one still in diapers.  Their Daddies don't hunt much or had the experiences I had growing up rough in the country.  Its on my shoulders.

The owner of my business and I took his 2 oldest sons 18 years ago.  It was a miserable hunting day and we did our best.  It stuck on one of them and he has the fever.  The other, not so much.  His interests went another way.  The one that does still remembers the hunt.  And the memory is what it is all about.
