fishinwrench Posted November 26, 2021 Posted November 26, 2021 What exactly have we got going on here? Ya reckon that sunfish totally wrecked his schitt.....and he dove in to recover it? Or did he actually catch it on a worm, shove a wooly worm tied to a piece of mono in its face to stage this "featured photo"? Something tells me that all the photographer was concerned with was that his fingernails looked ok. That photo might have flew better in a copy of Cosmopolitan. And lastly.....Who makes that gray/yellow WF-5-F line? Cuz I want one. Mr.Pat Rigby is gonna "elevate your game"! 👍 Jthawks 1
fishinwrench Posted November 26, 2021 Author Posted November 26, 2021 As an "avid angler" with a background in Information Technology, wouldn't you expect him to know that a Crackle hackle is 5 turns? Of all the fly fishermen/tyers available at MDC......is this not somewhat embarrassing? ColdWaterFshr and Jthawks 1 1

ColdWaterFshr Posted November 27, 2021 Posted November 27, 2021 The head on that EHC is a little wonky too. How do you tie to the eyelet?🤣

I'm sure he's a good guy, but I'm a bit taken back by the MDC claiming he is an avid fly fisherman and tyer.

Not that mine are much better. Conservationist would do well to not insult our intelligence, even if it is completely obvious that they are trying to appeal to the very base level and novice of their readership . . . . someone who just discovered nature or went on their very first hike "outdoors" last weekend. Thats what it feels like. The photography and glossy production has always been top notch (Noppadol, Stonner), but the content and depth for a LONG time has been super-superficial, a 30 second bathroom read and never to want to read again. This article is a perfect example. Just look at the recipe for the ties. Materials: Hook (no kidding, size, style, or suggest a brand or two?) Hackle (same as above, could you be more vague?) yarn (ditto) thread (#$^!*) Bordering on being a disservice to the newbie. Oh well. The intention and spirit of the article is there. Either was over-edited, or was a lazy effort, or both.

I'd give credit for intention and spirit if they'd publish a deer hunting piece of the same caliber.....and get somebody killed. Honestly the only thing keeping the current issue from being tossed in the trash is the cool pic of the bird dog, waiting for a biscuit, on the cover.
Ryan Miloshewski Posted November 27, 2021 Posted November 27, 2021 The problem with the magazine is they don't want to pay good writers for quality content. They have their own "staff" is what we are always told (aka they don't have to pay them). And then you get crap like this. Missouri is home to some very good outdoor writers..why not utilize them? Just being cheap. Jthawks and fishinwrench 1 1 “To those devoid of imagination a blank place on the map is a useless waste; to others, the most valuable part.”--Aldo Leopold
