JestersHK Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 I fished the Mississippi in the crappy wind... it's s terrible stretch of water and I've yet to catch anything there, but I tried. Mud was thick and deep so didn't stray too far. Then off to in laws to take kiddos sledding with their cousins. A good day indeed. nomolites, Terrierman, BilletHead and 2 others 5

Jed liked fishing there because the fish never bothered him. Nothing better than sledding with the kids! JestersHK 1

jdmidwest Posted January 17, 2022 Posted January 17, 2022 I ended up at the farm today. Never had any snow around here. Pulled up deer blind huts and put them away for the season. Sighted in a few rifles and a new AR 350 legend pistol. It was fun to shoot, but needs some breaking in and tuning. Just a single shot, or maybe a double. Don't know if it was cold and dry of lube or needs some polishing. Sighted in at 75 yards using a red dot scope. Nice cool north breeze blowing. Right now, 7, JD we have two Layens occupied, two long Langs occupied and three standard langs occupied. The standard langs are only one box each. Not sure if they will continue to make it only one box deep. So do have one long Lang unoccupied and one Layens unoccupied. Then these two Layens to add to the yard. Plan is to start moving one standard Lang towards unoccupied long Lang to introduce those bees into it. Other two standard langs phase out, use as resource hives or give away. Want to go all long hives is the end game. If I have half the luck trapping swarms as I did last season this all should be possable. Does this all make sense or as clear as mud? It got really crazy here JD, I only had two long Langs coming into last Spring. Those two for some reason swarmed multiple times. I gave them plenty of room to expand. Of course, I am dealing with feral wild bees and in actuality honeybees are supposed to swarm. So right here in the yard I caught four of those swarms on low tree branches. Not giant swarms. I also have a wild hive in yard in a walnut tree. I think that a swarm from them was caught in a swarm trap I put in a tree stand in corner of the yard. Built six swarm traps and made a trap line with them. (Four lang and two Layens) Knew of two other wild hives in Bee trees in Farmer friend's yards. Caught two swarms in each of those places. Rest of the traps put in high traffic places where fields, timber and water meet. I was blessed and my total catch was 11 swarms. Out of all these I filled what hives I made and the standard langs I had and bought, gave away the rest to a couple friends. I lost two that lost queens. Two swarms ended up in Herman Mo. One of those was lost and one still going up there. This hobby started because we need the pollinators. Now I have an addiction. I need to give you a ring sometime for questions. Think I still have your number somewhere.
