My best bet would be plant them into a good tilled garden spot. They usually have a weak root system and planted in a good loose soil bed, good wind will blow them over. They are fun to grow. Yeah my first thought when planning this was the wind . This bed has a 5'X4' fence in the middle of it to tie them up. The bed is almost 3' deep. The dirt has logs sticks and rocks and pieces of wire fence in it so the roots can hang on. If needed I can attach a pvc frame around the edges for more support.

Where do you get the alfalfa pellets? Good idea to get some nitrogen in. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

jdmidwest Posted March 6, 2022 Author Posted March 6, 2022 Picked up some Everbearing Strawberry roots and some Aspargus crowns for the new bed I built. 12 bags of topsoil for the beds. Took advantage of a few hours this afternoon and went to work. Cleaned off the old crap, stirred the compost, turned over one bed and covered it up. Prepped the areas for the strawberries and asparagus, did not get them in the soil. I did till my cold crop bed and planted some lettuce, spinach, and sugar snap peas. All beds are covered now to dry out. Dug up the strawberry runners from last summer to make new sets, put them in the shed. Probably give them to neighbor to give him a start on berries. Garden is officially started. BilletHead, tho1mas and snagged in outlet 3 3 "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

Cover has been on one for a couple weeks and dirt was warm. Lettuce got planted in that one and re-covered. MOPanfisher Posted March 6, 2022 Posted March 6, 2022 I peeked into my cold frame, lots of lettuce for sure coming up. Won't open it again for a few days. Will be cleaning off the strawberries after the current cold spell passes, and gotta mow, salt and fertilize the asparagus too. snagged in outlet 3 1
