Gumboot Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 I have trolling motor interference on my bow Helix 10. Every time I hit the pedal the entire screen fuzz's up. Otherwise works great if you just want to drift and see where you been. Any recommendations on someone to look at it either in the Pittsburg, MO area or South KC? Thanks
fishinwrench Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 Your Helix 10 needs to be powered up from your cranking battery. If the installer tapped into the TM circuit to power up the sonar unit then interference is unavoidable. nomolites and Seth 2
Dutch Posted February 16, 2022 Posted February 16, 2022 Your wires should not be running down the same side of the boat as the trolling motor wires. If you can’t get it to stop you may need a ferrite choke. I had to do it with a motor guide and Lowrance several years ago. I have kept it and install it on every trolling motor since. nomolites 1
Gumboot Posted February 17, 2022 Author Posted February 17, 2022 It is powered by the cranking battery, I think the issue is what Dutch suggested, but I just want someone to fix it. I just looked up Ferrite choke (bead, block, core, ring), suppresses high frequency electronic noise and reduces electromagnetic interference. I got a headache just typing that! fishinwrench 1
Dutch Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 The ones you find with a Google search aren’t worth installing as far as I am concerned. Mine came from Scott and Brad at Marine Repair Center in Springfield. If they have one I sure they would ship it to you. Give them a call 1-417-933-9191. Gumboot and Dewayne French 2
curtisce Posted February 21, 2022 Posted February 21, 2022 Had the same problem watched youtube on the subject. Only one that made sense was a guy that said you need good electrical connection. Most electronics are run with small gauge wire. I took the 12 ga wire that was running my TM (which was also too small) used it to run all my electronics at the console and bow. Ran a new 10 ga to run the TM. no problems since. grizwilson and Gumboot 2 The answer may not lie at the bottom of a glass, but you should always check
MarkG52 Posted March 3, 2022 Posted March 3, 2022 Mine mysteriously started having trolling motor interference as well. When I was in water deeper than 20-25 feet, every time I'd hit the troller the screen would fill up with vertical lines. I put chokes on the power cable to the Helix and to my Ultrex too, maybe helped a little. Then one day I got to messing with the settings and turned the noise filter setting DOWN. I had it set on 4 I think, and just dropping it down to 3 made a huge difference. Might be something to check. Gumboot 1
