MOPanfisher Posted April 11, 2022 Posted April 11, 2022 Even natives can become invasive or at least a problem. Last few years redbuds have been trying to take over a small patch, persimmons, plums, oaks, Hickory all of them at times can become an issue depending on what you are trying to accomplish.

tjm Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 I once cleared about three acres one summer for pasture and the next summer had dogwoods as thick as if they had been sown there. We used to love the wild plums for jelly, but could never get them to spread and they eventually died out. Biggest native problem I have in yard and garden is trumpet creeper, it is the most persistent plant on the farm and roots must be deeper than tress, kill one branch and it makes 18 more. Pretty in a tree, not so pretty when in the flower garden or smothering the termaters.

MOPanfisher Posted April 12, 2022 Posted April 12, 2022 The wild plums are always tart, kind of like pie cherries, takes a lot of sugar.

The flesh is actually pretty sweet, but skins are really tart. Try peeling the skin off one time when the plum is ripe. Was an eye opener for me.
