Dutch Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 I need a rod which will do a good job casting 1/16 oz jigs and maybe 1/32 oz. I have heavier covered. Any recommendations?
FishnDave Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 I don't know how well it casts...but its been cast before. So...here's a rod: (sorry.. I couldn't resist) Daryk Campbell Sr, BilletHead and tjm 3
FishnDave Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 Sounds like you want an ultralight or microlight spinning rod. Check out the offerings from your favorite rod makers. Its been quite a few years since I used them, but I had a Bass Pro microlight rod that would cast the light stuff pretty well. It was kind of "noodley"....but certainly did a good job protecting light line when a bigger fish bit. Some lighter rods are also shorter, but I had one that was still pretty long, which was what I wanted at the time. Bass Yakker 1

Johnsfolly Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 I have used both the BSP microlite and Air stream UL rods. I can easily cast 1/16 and smaller including microjigs with both. I prefer the 7' Air Stream UL rod. With 2# line I can get a pretty good cast with microjigs. 4# works well with 1/32 oz jigs or larger also small cranks or rosstertail type spinners. It has enough backbone to handle decent size fish. Daryk Campbell Sr 1
Dutch Posted October 11, 2022 Author Posted October 11, 2022 Would this one give good distance in 7’ ultralite? https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/st-croix-premier-series-spinning-rod?irclickid=VyoXTBwvdxyNWphT6cSYjSgGUkDQK-0YEUvUyg0&irpid=1460855&irmpname=USAngler&irsharedid=&cm_soc=AFF&irgwc=1&hvarAID=impact
Terrierman Posted October 11, 2022 Posted October 11, 2022 I like a 6'6" LF St. Croix for that use. The Airstream that John recommends is good too - I've got two of them. I also have a rod that Richard Cross - the zig jig man - had for sale. It is so light and just right action that of them all, it's my favorite. CrossFire Rod | ZigJig

I would go LF rather than UL though. Try to have both in your hand before deciding. Bass Yakker 1
Dutch Posted October 12, 2022 Author Posted October 12, 2022 BPS has the LF St Croix in the 6’6” length. I’m going to have a look at it later today. Terrierman and Bass Yakker 2
ollie Posted October 13, 2022 Posted October 13, 2022 I have 2 older Falcon Original series rods that I use to toss 1/32 and 1/16th on all the time and I have no issues flinging them a country mile! lol One is only 5' and the other is 6'6". Both great rods for the application, but sadly those are discontinued. Of course make sure you are using lighter line like 4# or smaller to achive this.
