Crappie love the #5.

Keep us updated on the process, now is the time to stock up for summer.

I assumed that they were basically winter baits.

That's what they were originally invented for from what I've read, but only within the last decade have started gaining popularity in open water.

You will lose a lot more fishing them on the bottom in the summer but it's pretty effective and probably my favorite way to fish walleyes. If you drop into an active pod of fish you can just pull them in one after another.

They give a pretty solid return on 2D sonar so you can see them as they fall and stop them before the snaggy stuff, like if you're after crappie suspended over a brush pile, and of course they show up well on Livescope too.

Thanks for the update.  I haven’t ordered any yet but plan to.

I went ahead and ordered 10 just to give them a try.  I’m trying to decide how to paint them.

My walleye friends who fish these cut off the two solid hooks at each end. They rely on the treble, and hang up far less often. When they do, they have a chance to jiggle free without engaging other hooks.

The fins look opposite the orientation on a jigging Rap, will be interested to see how they do.  Paint looks good to me!

I may have them upside down.  I was struggling with the glue and getting a bit perturbed.  I tried them both ways and they seemed to fit better the way I put them on.   I’ll try the other way next time and see how it goes.

Yeah the fins are supposed to be the other way. In the winter I don't think it would matter that much since you aren't working them that aggressively, but in the summer you'd want them so it'll dart/glide like it's supposed it.

Or who knows, you may have just discovered the way to make it irresistibly dart on the up swing.
