I'm just wondering if any oversized bunny foot couldn't pass for a Snowshoe hare foot. Kinda like the "Icelandic sheep hair" thing.
fshndoug Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 The guy that took the picture of the giant rabbit foot is the same guy that makes a 8" bluegill looks like it is 15 inches long.

jdmidwest Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 A snowshoe rabbit is a species that comes from the Northwestern areas. They change to white in the winter season, wonder why you can't find some? "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

Johnsfolly Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 I have hunted snowshoes in PA back in early 90s. They used to have a two day season right after Xmas. We would see them up in the swamps and bogs in the mountains. Killed and ate only one. I would guess that it weighed 3 to 4 lbs. Rear feet were much longer than cotton tail or any domestic rabbit that I've seen. Tougher than a cotton tail and more game flavor. I should have kept a foot or two but didn't.

I have plenty of white rabbit fur and guard hairs, and as far as I can tell there isn't a bit of difference between that and the fur from between the toes of a stupid snowshoe hare, as far as dryfly winging material goes. I'm actually pissed. I've been hearing/reading about the magical properties of snowshoe hare feet for 35+ years.....Only to find out this late in my career as a flyfisherman & tyer that it's all a crock of BS. That's so frustrating! I mean, when I think of the pedigree's of the people that have mentioned that repeatedly......it makes me wanna throw pies at them.
fshndoug Posted January 30, 2023 Posted January 30, 2023 That looks like Lassie in that picture. That rabbit must weigh a 100 lbs. Size 10 shoe on that rabbit.
