rps Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 As I have written before, the Yozuri Hybrid is an inexpensive line that performs well and reliably. It humbles the mono I used in the past, and does not cost nearly as much as the flouro flavor of the day.
Champ188 Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 20 hours ago, Ham said: You pay your money, and you take your chances. Sure, but I'd rather stack the odds as high as possible in my favor. Goes double when you're talking about tournament fishing. I want every ounce of tensile strength I can get between me and a bass. Besides, as a multi-time Bassmasters Classic qualifier once told me, "Sometimes you want high-tech and sometimes you want low-tech." Crank baits are a case for low-tech, and for me that means either P-Line CXX or a quality monofilament like Trilene Big Game. I want my cranking line to stretch under pressure, not snap because it's too rigid. Keeps you from (a) breaking off fish and (b) pulling those treble hooks out of the fish. A soft rod is preferable, as well, for the same reasons.
Bill Babler Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 Was really surprised at all the fish the Pro’s broke off at Clark Hill this past week. Simply crazy number, I’m thinking a couple of dozen. Can only remember one other derby with that many breakoffs on the snap and in that one Otte DeFoe must have broken off 3 or 4 by himself. They also snapped a dozen rods in the same derby. Mostly because they tromp all over them laying in the deck. Lots of the guys, I’m going to say most fishing Sunline. I have never fished it but I could if I wanted. I know someone. I just can’t, or won’t stop fishing Invisx and Maxi. 5# Maxi is just simply my go to on a spinning rod, for any bait under 3/8 oz. Quillback Posted March 3, 2023 Author Posted March 3, 2023 I use Maxima Ultragreen also. Used to use 8lb and sometimes 6 lb. when fishing for summer steelhead. Never had any issues with it. Used it trolling for king salmon, 17 lb. test and again no issues. I use it for top water striper fishing (15 lb.) on Beaver. And I use it for any bass fishing where I use mono. It is good mono.
Ketchup Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 After trying the P-Line on wrench suggestion 5 years ago, i swore i would never fish anything again but mono. That line would break just looking at it. Add a lure to it and there goes $10 flying. I bought a 2500 yard roll and respooled after every outing until i felt i gave it an honest try. I use mono Berkley XL as it fits most of my wants/needs. Rare to get broke off now. TinBoats BassClub. An aluminum only bass club. If interested in info send me a PM.
Lvn2Fish Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 10 seguar or sunline for my jerkbaits . I haven’t broke a fish off for a long long time . But I’m also a reel engager when fighting jerkbait fish on a bait caster.
Bill Babler Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 There is and has been quite a debate by stick bait fishermen on whether to use carbon or mono. Most feel carbon pulls the nose of the bait down and sink it. Very unnatural. I personally like mine to sink slowly and don’t mind the carbon. More astute pros like them to suspend somewhat tail down at the depth the bait was designed to fish. Almost all of the old time White River highlands Lake guys only fish mono. Two of the best jerkers I have ever know Buster Loving and Bill Beck were exact opposite. Buster likes carbon and Beck was strictly a mono guy. Both guys have waxed me more than I want to admit. I however have waxed Buster a couple of times. Beck died too quick and I never got any revenge on him. I needed an extra 100 tries. 🤪🤪🤪 Beck spanked me so hard one time early in Aunts creek I still have trouble sitting down. Durn Spro Blue Bandit. fshndoug Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 I like to use #8-10 lb big game in clear .No issues and no breakoffs. when using stick baits .Lots of guys use too stiff of rods while fishing stick baits. Just sweep the rod to set the hooks. #20 pound big game for A rigs. Quillback 1
dblades Posted March 3, 2023 Posted March 3, 2023 I've fish most every mono/co-polymer, from Ande to Yo-Zuri. Settled on Izorline Platinum for baitcasters, XXX for spinning rods. It's fairly cheap for large spool, very tough but handles well. Sunline takes care of fluorocarbon for me.
Quillback Posted March 3, 2023 Author Posted March 3, 2023 Speaking of Spro jerkers, they have come out with a +1 version. And they have it in Blue Bandit. I have not fished one yet. Lately I stink at fishing jerkbaits, used to kill them on jerkers but I have lost my mojo.
