Repairing rod tip

I have a Scheel's one-rod that the ceramic eye has broken and was cutting the line.  Want to replace the tip with new one.  My question is ---can I just heat the old  one to remove or should I cut it off.--not cut the rod-- but cut the metal tip.   I am seeing on several sites that if I use heat it will compromise the graphite rod tip because the temperature to get the epoxy or other glue to melt will effect the rod tip.  Any thoughts on this??   Any suggestions on a  more durable replacement tip???--this seems to be a weak spot on these rods..

I heat them up all the time and wiggle the tip off with needle nose, just heat it enough to get it twisting back and forth and you will be fine

Millions of them have been heated off and on. The thing to watch is to only heat the metal tube and to keep rotateting the tube in the flame so that it heats evenly.  Many tackle shops will do it for you while you watch if you buy the new tiptop from them. I use the same hot melt glue stick that archers use to attach points on arrows.

i like using super glue instead of hot glue to reattach the new one.  But either will work

Yep, use heat myself.  Have not looked myself, but there are probably a gazillion videos on the web about rod tip removal and repair.

I learned somethig from this video, there is a rod tip sizer, didn't know they existed, I am going to get one.

Thanks for the replies---Any thoughts on quality tips???  I have had issues with the ones that Scheel's use..  Could be me---when reeling in I sometimes bang swivel of a bottom bouncer  into the ceramic eye especially when I have a long leader attached.  Thought about putting a silicon bead ahead of the swivel/snap. Open to other ideas.

If that is a habit that you can’t correct then by all means put something on the line to protect the tip.

Super glue, being   very thin and runny, usually requires a perfect fit between the parts, the hot melt "ferrule cement" https://www.amazon.com/Bohning-1309-Ferr-L-Tite/dp/B0009TUDRW can fill the void of a tip that is a bit larger than the rod as often is the case. I read once that the hot melt craft glue could be used but haven't tried it. The ferrule cement stick from 50 years ago still works.

I may have knocked out an insert or three myself.  I've had to train myself to stop banging stuff into rod tips.  Fortunately rod tips are not that expensive.  Mudhole.com has a whole lot to choose from.

Thanks again for the good advice.  In the excitement of a large walleye on the end of a spinning rig attached to a bottom bouncer I forget where the snap swivel is and will bang it into the tip.. I guess you could call it "walleye fever"  Also I'm thinking a longer landing net handle might help also.  You guys and OAF are the best for expert info and advice.  Glad to be part of it.
