Suppose we give our many miles of hiking trails open access to ATV's/4-wheelers and horses?

Like that “windy” trail in your recent post where you only made it halfway to the lake?  😂.   Not even new REI hiking sticks could get you there.  Nice picture of the wrong lake though😆

Come hike with anytime me lazy jet boat-boy.  I'm sure you're winded just coming up the boat ramp.🤣

Doubtful, Buttercup.   When I climbed to the Devils Doorway last month I didn’t stop at the Grotto Pools and “say” I made it all the way to the Doorway, I actually WENT to to it😂   And took pictures of it.   You know the real Doorway😂.   Not the kiddy doorway halfway up😂

Whoa, simmer down Reinhold.  I'm not sure if I'm up for such challenges . . the mighty rugged mountains of Wisconsin can be very daunting!  You're not referring to the actual Devils Doorway 2 mile loop with a whopping  300 feet elevation gain at sea level, are you??  If you can do that, there isn't a boat ramp in the world that you can't conquer. 🤣

Glad you got out.   Great weekend weather-wise.  Catch these on top, or is that bite winding down?

Spent an hour on top water and only had one drag it under a little.   Switched to the crank and threw it for 3 hours.   I had a real nice one on for quite a while and it just pulled out.   I’ve gone totally barbless so it’s expected.   I don’t think it barbless makes a difference on jerks but I think it might on cranks.  But it’s easier on the fish and possibly me.   Going at lunch again tomorrow.

Jet boats are fine in a few circumstances, like say the tailwaters, the very lower Current, or a reservoir. They should have no place on the upper and middle Current and Eleven Point, just as they aren't allowed on the Buffalo.  The reasons are the same.  Only a relatively few places are so unique and beautiful that they are last best places.   Places like, say, our national parks, which what the ONSR is.   Or National Forest wilderness areas and even our state parks.  Should we have ATVs at Hawn or in the Yellowstone backcountry?  I think (hope?) most people would say no, but I'd wager some of the most ardent jet boaters (and a lot of party floaters) would be all in for that because, after all, who is to say how someone else enjoys themselves?  The fact is we allow jet boats and ATVs all up and down the Current and other rivers to satisfy a very small fraction of river users who cause a massively disproportionate impact on the resource.   Aside from the resource impact, there is a cultural impact.  When the rivers are seen as simply a conduit for thrill-seeking or vodka chugging (like the party floaters), no one really give a crap about the rivers themselves because they are focused - like toddlers - on what they want to do right now with little to no capacity for responsible self-restraint in the interest of something beyond the immediate satisfaction of seeing how fast they can fly up a 6" deep riffle or because they want to fish 5 miles up for 15 minutes before fishing 4 miles down 30 minutes later.  A generalization?  You bet; because its generally true.

This seriously made me laugh out loud.  What a hilarious reference.

For those who may not know, Reinhold Messner is a world renowned mountain climber.
