I really need to work on this area, though. I will say that not all that is shown here is oriented to fly fishing--there are a few lures and boxes of lures showing--I tried to avoid them, but my, uh, 'organization' isn't as clean cut as it will be.  This area will be a winter project.  Some of it will appear on the for sale forum, and some of it may be headed for the thrift store.

You just need a bigger basement and a supply of large labels.

The local fly tying club, scouts, etc. might get more benefit from your clean out than a thrift store would.

I could stand to eliminate a bunch of experimental materials that didn't work out.   Of course as soon as I do somebody will come up with something I haven't thought of, that I'll just have to try.......then I'll be buying it all over again.  🙄

Billethead and ness:  I live to serve...

And I have disposed of some things, like cured hides from short-nosed voles. It was great fur but way too short to dub.  And I am afraid of doing just what Wrench said, dumping something that I will want (and have to buy again) when a new pattern or use comes up that is "killer". 

That's one reason I've not culled a lot of materials for trout flies. I've not fished for trout in 10 years or so, but the moment I sell a grizzly cape or some UV dubbing, I'll be spending the summer chasing rainbows, figuratively and literally.

I've got all my fly tying material in a medium-sized Rubbermaid container.

This being a fly tying thread, I don't feel the need to disclose my other clutter.

I tied up a batch of Sexy Shad colored (white/yellow/lt.blue w/ silver flash) Clousers back in September and they've been killers.   Sat down to tie up a dozen more and discovered that the white that I used was FLUORESCENT WHITE.    Oh No! my "fluorescent white" tail is all used up.   I have 4 full, and gorgeous, WHITE tails.    

Do I take a chance that regular WHITE is fine?    Oh hell to the NO!     So, had to order a pair of FLUORESCENT WHITE deer tails.....and of course while I'm ordering stuff I probably should get more 6/0 thread and I can never have too many 1/40th lead dumbbell eyes, ect. And WOAH, hooks are on sale until after Christmas!

Grand total for 2 deer tails=176.78

 

This is how we end up with cases full of $#!t, and then later wonder why !
